fry 209
Well its been blazing hot if not a bit windy! i am laying a patio around a conservatory i have just finished and have to drive past my top rabbit permissions, my new potatoes are ready and i have over wintered onions and lettuce ect from my allotment so i put a bit of a veg box together for the owners of the largest permission. I put my shooting stuff in the van along with the veg and set of to work stopping on route to deliver the veg and ok where i could shoot on way home, the lady of the house said that the horses had been move from the end feild and the lambing was over so i could shoot down near the riding school again for the first time in a month +. she said the rabbit numbers had swelled during my absence and they were digging into the riding school again. I did my day at work and left shattered (getting to long in the tooth for this building lark) , i park up over the road so they can lock there gates if need be took my rifle out of the slip grabbed my target and game bag containing my poor mans bipod and range finder set up the target had a quick zero (not through long grass as last time ) and set off down the lane got 200 yards down and spot a bunny on the side of the lane! so i get within 40 yards lay down on the hard busted up tarmac (i miss stood up) breathe out squeeze trigger thwack one in the bag did not even twitch . now i have forgot the rigours of my day and am in a hunting frame of mind walk round the corner near there house lean over the gate another with his back to me at about 25 yards got a gate to lean on now so i take aim it sits up looks round thwack 2 in the bag, i grab it walk down to the riding school and theres one sat in it i creep down behind the stacked horse jumps get within 35 yards lay down bingo 3 in the bag only been here 10 minutes. i now proceed to the furthest field and cant believe it there must 30 + out there helping them selves, i crouch behind the fence lean the rifle on it with my hand under it to shield it from scratches and pow! its a turned on electric one and i get a bolt , i jump up and the rabbits do a runner for the hedge mexican wave style . I have now decided to break my 4 max bag rule and set up in the down wind corner 15 minutes later they start to appear in range i take down 2 and stay put with that a large fox comes out from a ditch and makes its way towards me! wurzs photo comp springs to mind and i think shit i aint brought a bloody camera i get my crap phone out go to full zoom but its bright sunlight an i cant really see the scratched screen an did not know that going on full zoom some how reduced image size fox gets within 25 yards untill it hears the silly synthasized camera noise on my phone and legs it. Now i just fill my bag for the first time since i started shooting again i dont miss a single shot all heads the end tally was nine as i shot one more on the walk back if you look at the left hand side of the ropey pic you can just make out the fox head. Note to myself take the F###Kin camera next time. Quote Link to post

gurtwurz 792
nice bag bud, shame you forgot the camera tho!! my missus had a fox nick a rabbit she'd shot the moment it hit the ground earlier in the spring, that would've made a classic picture as well... cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
darren watson 14
lovin that "bipod" sounds like a nice productive permission you've got there better luck next time with the photo mate! the same happened to me, a horse came and started eating the patch of dock leaves i was hiding behind, that would have made a quality photo, if i didn't have to faff around with the camera phone. atb, darren. Blooming shame you forgot your camera, the Fox would have made a great picture. Also....if you had the camera in your hands when you touched that fence, you would have had a full battery now ATB.
