seen a clip on youtube of a badger scaring fox away from a kill , probably what it was then .

you in a high TB area? i know it has no bearing but might be worth to see if your local cattle farmer has put a report in for TB, you might fall in the bracket if they decide to bring the cull in

i saw a clip like that on youtube the badger bit the fox at the base of the tail.

See, i knew they would take a newborn, but this lad is surely too big???

jai i thought you would no more than that mate :icon_eek: a badger would kill a lamb that size in seconds  they dont have them big k9s just for eating beetles and worms like some would have us believe

It was a fair size mate, i know they can take lambs of a couple of weeks, but this one would have been an impressive takedown. I've never really heard of them aggressively hunting them like a fox does. I know they eat plenty of dead sheep and other animals, but wasn't sure how big they could actually kill themselves??? But then watching the fox vs badger vid. . . . . you could be right. Mind you with the number of badgers and lambs around here if they were doing it a lot we'd have no fecking sheep left!

well think about it mate, a badger weighs an average of say 25lb and its equipped with powerful jaws and big teeth plus they can run faster than a spaniel!!! they are meat eaters and will kill lambs just as regular as fox without a shadow of doubt  its too big an animal to rely solely on scavenging imo and if a fox can kill a lamb, then you see what that badger did to that fox in the video then there should be no doubt in anyones mind how quick they can deal with lambs

Thats exactly right we had a run of badger predation on the lambs this year and I am dead sure that it related to the dry weather with a lack of available food and the fact that they where nursing young pushed them to take more lambs than usual
