Phantom 631
Hi Lewis, Many people don't bother with silencers on springers. However they can be used to good effect. Although you will not notice much of a difference, because the sound of the action against your ear! Downrange is where the benefit is as it muffles the crack from the muzzle. You can also dampen the sound from the action by putting little strips of felt/rubber between the stock and the action, but you will never silence it like you can a PCP. Tony Quote Link to post
Daz 7 563
As Tony said, Not really worth it, Unless you get the action tuned first by someone like Sandwell target and field, Tried a couple of Silencers on my .177 HW 97 KT but the action is fairly loud untuned so the silencers weren't that effective. Your better off getting it tuned first. regards Daz. Quote Link to post

will8371 2
i think a silencer/suppresor on a springer is a waste of money. the noise of a springers action is loud and can be heard at 30 yards which is the ideal shooting range for hunting. bearing in mind that noise travels faster than a pellet, the quarry is going to hear that , regardless of whether it hears the pellet leaving the barrel. i used to have a 97k and always wondered if you could dampen the springer noise by dampening the sound, ie by wrapping some rags around the action area, but so that it doesn't affect the cocking. jasper65 6
And there was me thinking a silencer muffles the muzzle blast hence stopping the sound traveling forward to the target/quarry . weather it has spring/mechanical noise is besides the point, a decent silencer will 100% do its job on a springer! spring and mechanical noise is a different issue... Get the action tuned and quietend down, makes a huge difference when mated up with a silencer. Jasper Quote Link to post
The one 8,479
Ive a silencer on the Wembley and its a waste of time the noise of the spring is all you here Quote Link to post
bud 5
Ive a silencer on the Wembley and its a waste of time the noise of the spring is all you here It wont make a difference to you, as your ear is right next to the action. It's down range where the difference will be, this is where it matters. Quote Link to post
mikeyblue 28
Yep agreed, stand down range (in a safe manner), and get a mate to fire a silenced springer. There will be little or no difference to a PCP. All you should hear is the pellet flying. Kind Regards, Mikey. Quote Link to post
