a dash of blood

Recommended Posts

i regularly get told by lads that their lurcher has a dash of this blood or a dash of that in its make up,although sometimes its obvious looking at some types you can see for example a bit of saluki in it or bull whatever but how much of a certain type do you think you need in your running dog to make that bit of difference you wanted.for example if you had a whipp/grey and you wanted saluki in the make up of your next dog for whatever reason, bit more wind better feet etc then how much is enough to make a conceivable difference to get what you require, hope that makes sense

its a gamble what ever you bred you just hope it comes with the bits in you need or want

i know what you mean but is say 1/8 of something in the mix to small an amount to make any difference to what you have as apposed to say 1/4 or 1/2 that would be easily visible and give you the attributes you require,am i making sense,i know its a bit random just trying to get my head round it thats all :D

It's luck you could buy a dog thats 7/8 greyhound and 1/8 bull and it's entirely possible that could look like a pure bull. 1/8 breeding doesn't mean the dog will only look 1/8 bull its luck on how much genetic make up they get from each dog in their breeding. I have 2 50% bull crosses from the same litter and one looks almost pure bull and the other looks more greyhound.

sorry yes mate understand that not worried about being able to see the certain types in the mix just more the question of how much blood in the mix to make the difference you want in the make up of your dog

the reason im asking is a lad may have some pups due soon,i dont know the exact make up of the sire, should have asked him properly other than his dam was a saluki/grey and his sire was a whippet,he been put across a straight grey so just wondering about the make up of the pups thats all
