fieldsman 51
A lot depends on the condition of the bitch if you work her hard and keep her tight,Very little fat on her it can delay her season,I had a Whippet that did,nt come in till she was 4 I put it down to the fact she carried no extra and because of the amount of land and rabbits I had at the time she ran every day she came in at 4 when she had an injury that put her out of action for a while alowing her to put a bit of weight on.Comeing into season made her ill I had to take her to the vets she had a raging temperature and went of her food .The vet thought the same as I did the lack of body fat had prevented her seasons. kevin from bristol 95
due to the fitness of my bitch she only comes into season once a year ,when i asked her vet he said the working bitchs are prone to this so if your dog is very fit you could have a wait on your hands anyway at only 20 months old you got plenty time Quote Link to post

Same as female athletes. Being so fit and carrying no fat interferes with their oestrus cycle. But also some bitches never come into season, happened to a mate of mine's 3/4 deerxgrey many years ago. We wanted to cover her with a very useful dog I owned at the time, and waited about 4 years for her to break down but she never did. Quote Link to post
undisputed 1,664
Greyhound saturated dogs are notorious for not having regular seasons. Some might never have one. Quote Link to post
LucyLurcher 3
I've got 6 bitches and they're all completely different, one didn't start till around 18 months and only has one season a year. We mated her on her 3rd season (8 weeks ago) and she took beautifully so she obviously "works" perfectly well. I wouldn't worry, just make sure if you are planning to breed her you let her have at least 2 seasons first. Quote Link to post
