Submisive lurchers

Recommended Posts

my dog is very submisive with other dogs and runs away from the sister in laws yorkie but he still as it in him to tackle stuff with teeth ....

yours is still a pup and got a lot to learn about the doggy world

Mine is soft with other dogs too, he ends up squealing when the russel plays too rough. The other night out for a walk and my mates big lurcher tried it on with my lurcher and the russel had to step in to defend the soft git :D

You have nothing to worry about mate i would rather have a submissive dog than an aggressive dog. couple of storys

Had a 3/4 collie/grey called gin who was a lovely bitch around other dogs but would turn tail an run at the first sign of trouble. One day the local corner shop guy who had a beautiful german shepherd bumped into us on a woodland walk both dogs off the lead, shepherd growls and takes off after gin they run over a field through a hedge squeal of brakes end result shepherd dead car damaged and 1 lucky gin sat on the doorstep waiting for me. So just take care

I once owned very briefly an english bull terrier that showed out and out dog/ people aggression at a few months old. i have always required a well trained dog no matter the breed but i could do nothing with this bitch so i re homed her she died of a brain tumour at a young age and i maintain she had that from birth as she was a dangerous dog from the word go.

The biggest problem with submissive dogs is the gradual rise of fear aggression so make sure you dont sub conciously condone their behaviour by positive reinforcement of negative behaviour just keep them well socialised i go on organised dog walks with up to 30 dogs and it helps the kelpie x as she is a cow with other dogs its just something we will always have to do to keep her right

i have a big lurcher here and too be honest isn't the best around other dogs he doesn't know, but he is as game as hell, never once backed down no matter how hard the night has been, for that reason thats why he is still in my kennels, and the other lurcher is very, timid, but is a joy to own and game as they come, so i dont think it matters too much

i think the best ones allways want to be pack leader in any situation , and i also think the self entered ones will make better dogs , obviously depending on the job being asked , the good stuff needs holding back till ready not encouraging ,owned and worked both , and thats what i found in terriers and lurchers ,

The best working dogs I have owned, and some of the best I have ever seen have bean the most submissive types ever. You'd think they were pure bred pot lickers, but when the light goes green, the bullshit stopped.

I'd rather have a kennel full of submissive type terriers and / or lurchers than these "'ard fuckers" you see, and even "'arder fuckers " you see walking them.

Like the old adage goes " it's the quiet ones you have to watch".
