poacher3161 1,766
I screwed my back up in a horse riding accident when i was 17 . . . . . its fine 98%, but as soon as i get a twinge my Osteopath is on speed dial, they really are excellent and will get you out of pain, most good ones will use acupuncture as well if needs be. Does acupuncture really work? My physiotherapist said that it's something I should look at. I got the head kicked off me by a load of lads a couple of years back and they dislocated and broke my shoulder :alcoholic: . Where the break healed it formed as callous which was rubbing around inside the socket and causing me a lot of pain. I've had keyhole surgery on it and while I'm not getting any more pain in my bicep and wrist, I still get a lot of pain in my shoulder when I move it around a lot. Would you say acupuncture is worth it? I can recomend it for any sort of nerve damage after two sessions i felt great for weeks.

Yeah they said it was nerve damage and that my shoulder is now arthritic. I've been back in the gym strengthening it back up and it's helped a bit but I may just give this acupuncture carry on a go. gnasher16 30,470
The thing to remember with acupuncture AFT is its only pain management.....no amount of acupuncture in the world is going to fix or repair certain injuries ...I know they talk about accelerated blood flow aiding tissue repair etc etc but i guess it depends on the type of injury. Ive had a lot of breaks in the hands over the years and suffer with arthritis in them, particularly in cold weather.....the advice ive always been given is exercise/movement related as opposed to actual pain management. Yeah, I was having cortisone injections before I had the Keyhole surgery and it was OK'ish for a short while but the pain was back like normal, which is why I had the surgery. Since having the surgery though, I've not had pain management so I might give the acupuncture a go. I've been back in the gym using light weight's and it has improved a bit, so I suppose it's best to have a stronger shoulder with some pain than a weaker one with pain. The surgery is her only other option, but something she really wants to avoid for as long as possible....she is a nurse so knows the score. Sorry i could not be more positive for you

Sorry i could not be more positive for you You was on the right track though i would imagine the vertebrae crumbling as in your sisters case is probably more serious than the discs between them like in my case....im up and mobile again not taking any pain killers ( cos im so hard ) ....but certainly not back to normal and theres still pain there....the reason i was in so much pain before was because of the lack of fluid in the discs apparently meant the sciatic nerve was being pinched. Thanks for your input anyway Edited June 9, 2011 by gnasher16
