YOKEL 2,289
get and call out your dr, he'll tell you what you need. my brother, a few years back now, had his back go for the umpteenth time, and left it, thinking it would sort itself out as it had done many times before. it did'nt, after a couple of weeks he got the dr out to him, who immediatly called for an ambulance. after no more than 1/2 an hour in a.e. he was transfered to a specialist at addenbrookes hospital for emergency surgery the following morning and given a 50/50 chance of walking again! he's got abit of a black mans limp now, but could of been alot worse. basically, his disc had popped and was pushing on a nerve, he'd left it so long it caused irepairable damage... lurchergrrl 1,441
I've had sciatica on and off for years now. I used a chiropractor back home in Canada, it helped a bit but no big deal. Last year I fell over a fence while I was lamping Sciatica kicked in and I was in dire pain - I left it for a while and the pain ended up right down my leg to my foot. Finally called the Osteo man and he sorted me out straight away. I honestly think I'd be crippled without him. Don't let it go too long because sometimes the damage can be permanent. gnasher16 30,470
Thanks very much for the advice What strikes me as abvious in reading the replies is you all sound like your pretty mobile while you have it.....im actually completely out the game it takes me 5 minutes just to stand up and straighten up,moving round the house youd think i was 99 years old !....Im on some fancy orthopaedic mattress virtually the whole day and have been for over a week ! Ive had sciatica on and off for about 20 years, maybe 1 or 2 short 3/4 day bursts of it every year....some flat out rest and it clears up on its own.....but the fact its only improving very slightly is making me wonder if its something else this time.....im still none the wiser what the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath is I,ll give them a bell and see what occurs....thanks all for your time anyway
RicW 67
Osteopaths are properly trained and registered. Chiropractors . . .

The Happy Ferret 6
Sounds like you have a prolapsed disk. Ask you GP to refer you to a speacalist to have prolotherapy treatment, or a nerve root blocker. Get a MRI scan to confirm if it is a prolapsed first. That will do the trick, then lots of physio.
