first sight of mixy...

Recommended Posts

hi guys, well i went up the valley as usual last night with the mutt that is charlie, and we proceeded to have a mooch around to see what was about. quite a few bunnies but charlie was feeling frisky so they were on the hop pretty damn quick until i'd got him to calm down a bit and get into hunting mode, which took 2 hedgerows before he realised what was what and got behind his by now somewhat riled master(i use the term advisedly, believe me...).

we spent a very pleasant hour wandering aimlessly around the bushes and after missing out completely on a couple of standers due to me not really being that great at 'em yet(that prosports heavy and i've noodle arms lol) we got a shot on a suspiciously unspooked bunny, and no surprise there, signs of mixy with puffy eyes and sores where the poor fella'd been scratching them.

i was hoping i'd get at least another month before it kicked in but thats nature for you i guess, at least this was in one of the more isolated burys, but that'll mean nowt now the flea seasons gonna start kicking in in earnest. funnily enough, there were no signs of it in the liver as i expected.

got a nice shot of charlie tho, this is him as still as is possible when he's out with me!

as we left, i remembered to catch a shot of the valley from the other end as i enjoyed a south downs sunset-

just brilliant photo's bud.

It's not about the size of bag but the opportunity to be there.

Was going to get out myself today, until I was advised that my plans had changed and I was the driver on a shopping safari! Lucky me! Role on tomorrow!

Great write up mate, and as the others have said - what an amazing piece of land to have to shoot over.

Sad to hear that you're starting to see mixy - my permissions appear to be clear of it for now (touch wood), although I've seen one or two when I've been out and about with the pup. Do you still use them for dog food?

And I'll say it again, your Prosport is an absolute beauty.

cheers for the nice comments lads

shay, really looking forwards to seeing you down here mate, we'll have a blast mate

Great stuff John, the pics, your write-up. Everything just a great read.

I'm seeing Mixy on my permission with some (not all) of the rabbits Andy and I have been shooting this year so far. The dreaded whites around the eyes and thinning, patchy coat has been found on more than a few. Equally worrying is the numbers of rabbits for the pot that have been found to have suffered from liver flukes and other unpleasentnesses of their vital organs. It was only last year that I had an amazing season's rabbit shooting with plenty of rabbits in beautiful condition throughout.

Now these unhealthy signs coming through. :hmm: Not good.

But great to see your new Prosport is repaying the faith you've placed in her!

Cheers mate.

Simon
