Question regarding the law

Recommended Posts

I have permission to shoot foxes from the farmer. As it is rough patchy ground i use my shotgun and my lurcher and terriers to flush for me. There is a few roe on my permission aswell that I try to steer clear of but is harder done than said. Say a roe gets up in front of my lurcher while flushing and she catches it. By the time I get to it shock has set in and there is no saving it so I have to dispatch of it humanly. Now it is a total waste and not very noble to leave the deer lying so if I take it home. If I am stopped with the police where do I stand? I was clearly carrying out pest control on written permission legally but how does the law look at this? Am I supposed to leave the deer lying to rot and encourage more foxes to the land?

you may be innocent, but like simo says depends who pulls you if they believe you or not,if it was me id take the dogs home then go back for it without them

If a deer is on your permission, isnt it fare game? Probably wrong, just going by what ive been told in the past!

failing that get the deer to write a witness statment saying it tripped an the dog never touched it

Humane dispatch with a knife or shotgun is perfectly legal and I should imagine should the problem arise the deer probably had a broken leg so needed dispatching

thats what i thought. so where do i stand with taking it home, do i let it rot or live off the land?

Only problem might be if plod what to know where it came from you might want to have your farmer "on side" so to speak how likely are you to get pulled though?

What you have done may be prefectly legal but its proving it nowdays, imagine trying to convince the "authorities" if your pulled with a fresh deer and lurcher, depends on who pulls you.....

if there is terriers and written permission for foxes i suppose it would go in my favour. when beating the deer go everywhere and i cant stop the dog from giving chase
