J.DOG 1,355 Posted May 28, 2011 Report Share Posted May 28, 2011 (edited) Just wondering if anyone can help me my pup got a little nip on his back leg at the top of his foot it has become a little sort of bump it's not a hard bump but he keeps chewing it and it keeps bleeding the bump has been there for a few weeks and he has just started biting it. I would cover it so the dog can't get at it: change the dressing every day without fail, and put on some antiseptic ointment on it. I know its difficult trying to stop a pup nagging at a bandage or wound: but do try. How old is the pup? If it is old enough to tolerate a collar, one of those plastic things which you attach to the dog's own collar (pets at home sell them). Under 6 months and I'd try to smear the bandage with something bitter which the dog won't lick. The bandage should be breathable: ie. NOT elastoplast or something which will increase moistness in the area. Edited to add: you could try using some very dilute Tea Tree Oil which is an anti bacterial and anti fungal product. BUT BE VERY CAREFUL. TEA TREE OIL IS MUCH HARSHER THAN MOST NORMAL ANTISEPTICS. DILUTE ONE DROP IN A TEASPOON OF WATER AND DAB ON THE AREA. Quote Link to post
