SeanTheHawker 0
Headed out on saturday with a mate. was a brilliant sunny day.rolf weighed in at 1lb 5.3, a little low, so we flew him first. we had a lovely rabbit broke from cover, with rolf hitting it, missed and got back up, but didnt get back on terms. then we done a little ditch, had a flight down it, only last 20 yards and rabbit was in the hole. as i walked up stephen shouted rbabit, and one one running down the ditch the far side, when rolf took up, he spooked it from the ditch and crossed to the other fenchline, rolf nailed it at a pile of rocks. nice flight to start the day. went on to do another set but rabbits just would bolt, in one hole down another. then had a nice ground set, but the rabbit went under sheep fenching. rolf hit the fench, got back up and chased, but just didnt connect. then another ground set, produced one, he hit but didnt hold. then i started heading back to position and it bolted again, straight into the wind and slightly uphill. no catch, but was a nice flight now. went on and down a few empty sets, some of the best on the farm too. then another ground set, ferret it and rabbti out, rolf hit it not too far from the hole, and got pulled back to it, he managed to achore himself, and got both of them out. necked it, and opened it up for a feed up. as i done this another bolted right beside us, couldnt caught it with my hands lol. headed back to car and boxed rofl up. took stephens bird out. the dogs on the farm scared her alot, but had a nice flight at a rabbit put up from a windbush. eventually called it a day with the ferret laying up at deep deep set lol. couldnt even read it at 8ft. headed out today then, another bright day with another stephen. rolf weighing 1lb 6 this time. walked to the first sets we had a lovely slip at a rabbit running straight across the field from us. rabbit got in the hole on time. then works a little bit of cover, with rolf stooping hard at a rabbit, but again, no catch. then done the first set of the day. produced a rabbit but only ran about 10 feet and in again, quickly grabbed ferret and went on. next set, ferret it. rolf bates, so i let him go, and he chased a rbabit along the end of the ditch then over a gate and smacks it right in the bushes, great flight, and first for the day. back to set, ferret laid up, but came out with blood on his nose. done another set in the next ditch down, which cleared the whole ditch to a stone wall maybe 100 yards away. we were standing a little far back from the bolt, but was a brilliant flight. next set was a ground set, wasnt rolf till rolf bated, didnt see what it was, then he was down on a young rabbit! thats 2 young this week now! ferret killed in that set, but came out. crossed the road, and had 2 good flights at rabbit on a nice ditch, rolf caught one, and anchored himself at the hole, it was a very small hole, and as i went to grab the rabbit, it kicked him off! dammit! then had a dig, another rbabit in the bag and off we went, had a slip at 2 rabbits sitting out, but wasnt long before they were in the holes. next set produced a brilliant flight, with rolf missing, then hitting it, getting kicked of, hitting it and again kicked off. he worked hard for it, but no kill. next ditch produced a lovely rabbit running up the ditch, rolf chased. then it crossed over into a pile of bushes, i ran up to get rolf, when he dived in on them, and i seen the rabbit scurrying through, quickly lifted rolf and let him go again at the rabbit as it left the bush, it eventually got down a hole. then we had another dig, i got the rbabit, killed it, and was waiting for stephen to bring the bag over, i put the rbabit back down then, so rolf wouldnt see it, got the bag and the bloody ferret had pulled the rabbit back down.so got the abby rabbit, and shick it to try and lure him back, the wee bguger managed to pull that off me! how thick am i lol. eventually got him out after lots of messing around. eventually! we got to another set, another no clean bolt, with the rabbit in and out. then a few empty sets, and then one on a ditch, lovely bolt, with rolf getting it by the arse and being oulled under some farm machinery, didnt hold it, and got away. then done a lovely ground set, ferret didnt show, and we could locate him, eventually managed to get him at about 7 feet, and he was movign up and down the tunnel, eventually he came out an hour later lol. looking very tired. so headed back to car, had 1 flight on spec, but too close to cover. so had to end the day on a carcase from earlier. would have liked his last feed up of the season to be from a fresh kill, but hey, cant be lucky all the time. so thats the end of the season for me, after seeing the young ones in the last week. and a few pregnant ones. Just check out the diary, 128 kills for the season, 123 rabbits, 1 rook, one woodcock and 3 dickie birds. Roll on saturady! forgot what sleepin in is lol Quote Link to post
