Richie10 345
Why would you want to do it? People say it doesn't affect them but look at neutered dogs in the park. Quote Link to post
rabbit mad 10
im not doing it just wondered how it effect them as working dogs. Quote Link to post
collie/grey 238
Has no effect whatsoever, unless you neuter before the dog matures there will be no significant changes, they will put weight on quicker but adjust the feeding and exersize and that stops it. My 9 and a half year old bitch has been spayed for about 5 years now and she is still going strong albeit abit of arthritis and her prey drive is still all there. Quote Link to post

collie/grey 238
what about dogs people get it don for aggression. thanks Aggression is caused by habit or character of that dog which occurs with maturity, if you castrate a dog at say 6-9 months old it probably wouldn't have developed enough testosterone to be 'aggressive' Once a dog has reached sexual maturity and is in adulthood neutering will have no effect on temperament or character. Just my opinion based on dealing with alot of neutered and un-neutered dogs of all ages Do a google search, will give you alot of imformation on the subject. Quote Link to post

Neutering dogs doesn't stop aggression or stop them humping other dogs. Aggression is usually caused by a lack of socialisation or nervousness and humping is a dominance thing. The only thing neutering does in my experience is stop puppies. Stopping aggression and humping is much easier to do by training. What would you do if you neutered your bitch and she turned out to be a wonder dog but you could never breed from her? Quote Link to post
Mrs A.R.D 53
my lurcher was spayed at a young age for medical reasons (pio) as far as im aware it hasnt effected her in any bad way she doesnt have weight issues and she has great stamina etc. she is never out of the game due to being in heat so never misses a seasons hunting because of it. if it does have a bad effect on them it hasnt to her apart from i cant breed from her and that doesnt bother me. years ago i had to have a bull terrierX's knackers snatched, he was already aggresive to other males the only differance it made was he got fat and he started attacking bitches aswell.
