Your obsessed with jocks  You don't want a Scottish manager, you frightened of success? Who is the best english manager, harry redneck.... Whats he achieved then? As for west ham being the only team outside the top flight to win the FA cup and those being the days..... You might have a chance next season to re-live those days an emulate that achievement

I remember Phil Parkes in goals,on the wing Alan Devonshire,Billy Bonds and Frank Lampard.

Didn't they win a FA cup around then Trevor Brooking diving header?

Not sure id call it a diving header, the ball kind of hit his head and he fell over :D ....1980 against Arsenal.....still the last time a team from outside the top flight of English football has ever won the fa cup ;)

Dont forget Alvin Martin,Ray Stewart,Geoff Pike,Stuart Pearson.....and of course 17 year old Paul Allen the youngest ever player to come on in a cup final, clean through on goal only to be wiped out by a big dozey ginger jock !

They were the days.

If I remember rightly wasn't it Willie Young.............some result that day against the likes of Brady,Rix and Talbot.

Maybe you were right gnash wasn't a diving header. :D

You was right the first time ;)

Proper West Ham family the Allens....all of them went through the club from dad Les to Martin Allen,Bradley Allen,Clive Allen.....what an occasion for a 17 year old back when the FA Cup meant something.

Interesting gnash.........do you think the F.A. Cup as lost some of its appeal?Would that be from a club view or a fans view?

If I may offer an opinion? :D

I reckon the FA cup, has been devalued by the cash incentives offered by champions league qualification. You only have to hear Redknapp moaning about the hardships of playing in the UEFA cup and saying he's going to put second teams out. A few years ago a club would have been happy to have the chance to play for an extra piece of silver when the top teams have a monopoly on the domestic trophies.

If you listen to the media, they'd have you believe that it was all down to United pulling out of the competition over a decade ago. While I reckon that was an insult to the oldest cup competition in world football, the papers reaction to them doing it was an insult to every other football team who takes part in it.:thumbs:

I couldnt really add anything to what Malt said

Do kids these days pretend to be lifting the FA cup in the school playground,no they pretend its the champions league trophy......i accept times move on and the game grows.....just for us smaller clubs they were important times that will be swallowed up and forgotten about in todays times in terms of achievement.

Good points lads

I'd hate to see the FA cup lose its appeal...........I still love the David v Goliath ties BUT I do agree some clubs do devalue it a little by playing "second string" teams.I for one think it devalues the smaller clubs they play rather than themselves.

Absolutely right.... i remember the 75 final there were street parties before and after the game over the whole weekend infact, all you could see for miles was claret and blue round our way....kids vs dads matches between the lamp posts....fa cup final day was a special day for young boys even if your team wasnt in it youd still pretend you was the winning goalscorer :D
