Didn't they win a FA cup around then Trevor Brooking diving header? Not sure id call it a diving header,the ball kind of hit his head and he fell over ....1980 against Arsenal.....still the last time a team from outside the top flight of English football has ever won the fa cup Dont forget Alvin Martin,Ray Stewart,Geoff Pike,Stuart Pearson.....and of course 17 year old Paul Allen the youngest ever player to come on in a cup final,clean through on goal only to be wiped out by a big dozey ginger jock ! They were the days. If I remember rightly wasn't it Willie Young.............some result that day against the likes of Brady,Rix and Talbot. If I may offer an opinion? I reckon the FA cup, has been devalued by the cash incentives offered by champions league qualification. You only have to hear Redknapp moaning about the hardships of playing in the UEFA cup and saying he's going to put second teams out. A few years ago a club would have been happy to have the chance to play for an extra piece of silver when the top teams have a monopoly on the domestic trophies. If you listen to the media, they'd have you believe that it was all down to United pulling out of the competition over a decade ago. While I reckon that was an insult to the oldest cup competition in world football, the papers reaction to them doing it was an insult to every other football team who takes part in it. I couldnt really add anything to what Malt said Do kids these days pretend to be lifting the FA cup in the school playground,no they pretend its the champions league trophy......i accept times move on and the game grows.....just for us smaller clubs they were important times that will be swallowed up and forgotten about in todays times in terms of achievement.
