Ben 76 2
I wonder if anyone can help? I've had my HW95.22 for a few months or so now and have had some problems with my groupings using it. I have checked everything and tightened everything and even bought a new scope for it and it still wasn't grouping well. I was using RWS super domes at first and after taking it back to the shop changed to Falcon pellets which seemed to be better. However a pal of mine suggested removing the silencer which has seemed to stop the problem and I'm now whacking bunnies at 30yards and grouping beautifully. PERFECT! My question is though should I be taking it back to the shop and demanding a new silencer? Is the silencer bent? I've given it a tap on a table with white cloth and there is a little bit of dusty black stuff dropping out, does this mean the pellets are hitting the silencer when shooting? Has anyone had a simular prob with theirs? Sorry for the long winded explanation but hope you lot might be able to help. Cheers All Ben Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Hi Ben. This black residue thats coming out, could be from pellets clipping the inside face of the muzzle and deflecting off-target. It could be the threaded barrel end may be damaged from being knocked over. In which case, it's the rifle, not the silencer that needs replacement. Take it to the gunshop you got it from and ask them to fit a new silencer to test. If you still find poor results, it's your barrel's threaded end that's damaged. You get a lot of this with sleeved bull-barrel rifles that have beed accidentally dropped or knocked over. Doesn't take much to knock the threaded end out of true. Simon Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Indeed, or it could be that it was never in true to start with. Many rifle barrels have bores that are out of true with the circumference of the barrel blank, so if the thread is cut true to the outside of the blank, then it is not true to the centre of the bore, and clipping can occur. Try a different mod, if it still does it then you either need to get the rifle replaced, or get a competent gunsmith to recut the thread. Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
I had that problem .I ran a drill through the silencer about .5 of a mill bigger than the hole in the silencer .It worked fine but I was prepared to accept that it may have destriod the silencer . Quote Link to post

Simon Many thanks for the reply, I think you're right the pellet clips the silencer therefore leaves black residue. I am super careful with the gun and have never dropped it so maybe it could be that it was like it already when fresh from the box, having said that my wife has been known to move it occasionally so I might just blame her. Ben Meant to say that I have left off the silencer and found that my hw95 seems to feel and shoot better anyway, almost better balanced if you like. Took it out last night and before i had got out of the car I had bagged my first bunny! I would argue that by the time the pellet cracks home and i've re cocked it that that makes more noise than the shot anyway...... I was losing all confidence in my rifle, but without the silencer it seems to get better and better everytime. Quote Link to post
