my friend has just bought a correa carbine, its the air rifle you can change the power on with the dial, what he wants to know, is he knows the power on low setting is 12flb but not sure what its pushing on full power, if he gets caught by the police on low power is he ok or is he still going to have problems? :notworthy:

Tony your mate is stuffed with this one, you need to get rid of the rifle asap and get a fixed power 'legal limit' air rifle.

Don't take it to a gun shop as they will confiscate it, try and take it back to the original seller and get your money back. Its not something I would want in my possession at all!

Hi Tony.

I don't want to add to a perfectly good answer from Mark but, the Police will take the view that, this CAREER air rifle is a cat.1 firearm, that can be merely adjusted in power....

It's no defence whatsoever for your mate to say; "I've been good and only shoot it on the sub-12 ft/lb power setting".

The maximum power output the rifle is capable of, is the benchmark the Law uses to determine legality for ownership or the level of offences with air rifles.

There are decent guys who have bought and shot with a sub 12-ft/lb from a reputable dealer, and STILL have been caught out with an illegal airgun because the police have found reason to confiscate it, test it with their selected pellets and one brand of pellet in the rifle has tipped the scales over the limit. That's bloody unfair in my view but, they have the authority and the chronographic evidence to put before the beak. And he/she will judge purely on this evidence.

If your mate has no Firearms certificate for it and the gun is not licensed by a previous owner, he is in unlawful possession of an illegal firearm and the guy who sold it to your mate is in equal shit for passing it on to an unlicensed end-user.

Get rid fast, or he'll be lucky to come away with his liberty, let alone his cash!

Simon
