hmmm carnivore eh

Recommended Posts

So much for ferrets being carnivores lol,ive got access to some land that the farmer needs sorted.Even though am not keen on working my ferrets out of season and still without a collar i took them out, gotta be better than being in the hutch/runing about garden.Anyway ive been feeding them rabbits legs/ribs etc the last few days. They have eaten some of it but not as much as i expected, theres still a fair bit left for the bin next day. There is no problems when it comes to eating alphas ferret feast though, soon as i put some in they normaly eat it all quick. They seem to crap alot more when not eating meat.

Is a head/leg/rib per ferret to much?My two jills are still young so maybe they dont eat as much but i expected the hob to eat the whole rabbit head over night

Ave still alot to learn when it comes to ferreting,if anyone fances helping on this bit of land geez a shout.

When I was giving my ferrets dried ferret food they wouldn't touch raw meat apart from liver, I could give them raw meat and they'd be hungry but still wouldn't touch it. It took me ages to wean them on to raw meat, I mixed a bit with liver and then gradually increased percentage of meat until they were eating purely meat. Even now though they don't eat a lot, I'd say about a handful of mince or chicken leg between them per day.

It's much easier the other way around. I don't feed any dry over autumn, winter and in spring put them onto dry and they don't bat an eyelid. Mind you they stuff it down but dont seem to really enjoy it. I threw two half grown bunnies in with my two hobs last night and there was half a rabbit left this morning, they even eat the skulls.

Try this then, get a tomatoe, take a slice off the bottom and the top so it dont roll and put it in with the ferrets. Mine used to love them as a treat, whether theres some vitamins in them or not i dont know, but mine used to spend ages licking them. I suppose, its another way of breaking up the day for them, a bit of variety. Never did any harm thats for sure , they looked well enough on it.

Rake aboot - i fully believe it, animals are like people mate, or rather people are animals, and we all have our on peculiarities. Same with the stinkers, seen ones that love the dry and wont eat meet, one that have a thing for standing on your head and are unhappy till they reach it, ones obsessed with climbing fecking trees, the list goes on. Same as you get some that just CANNOT be fully hand tamed.

aye ill keep feeding them it when possible, they should eat more in time.ive gave them cat meat a couple times with alpha ferret feast and they eat the cat meat no problem.

mine get a varied diet which consists of rabbit, hare, chicken, duck, squirrels, crows, pheasant, pigeons both woodies and ferals, venison, and any mice i catch during the winter as long as they look clean. All food stuff is frozen before hand to eliminate bugs etc and mine all seem to be ok on this diet i use dry when im stuck but they tend to dig in the bowls rather than eat it :D
