Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi All. This has been said so many times about John Bowkett, but Im going to say it yet again myself. The man is a true gentleman, passionate about BSA rifles, and cares about what he does to peoples kit, endevouring to achieve the best, and get the best out of the rifle you send him. If he knows that BSA rifles are shooting sweetly, and owners are happy with them, he is a contented man. Speaking to him on the telephone is a pleasure, and very easy, he will listen, and at the same time offers so much sound advise. I sent my BSA S10 away to be tuned/blueprinted, not by John, but somebody else. Unfortunately, after nearly 8 weeks, and two attempts, the S10 beat the chap etc He did refund my money though. However that did not make up for the frustration over the looooong period he had my rifle. I spoke to John and explained what had gone before, and he graciously offered to put it right for me at a very reasonable cost. Exactly ONE week later, my rifle has returned, and is now very consistant, and accurate too. So I am a very greatfull and happy chappy, Thank you Mr John Bowkett excellent job, and a nice man, a true ambassador for BSA rifles . Bill. Quote Link to post
Ron Weasley 83
Glad to hear it mate. I wish Mr Bowkett had a website or something though! I have an R10 that I would like some work done too, but I'm in two minds as to whether to go to A&M or JB. Either way, I can't afford it right now. I also want to get my Ultra Tench reg'd. I love both my BSA rifles, but as has been said before many times it baffles me why anyone should spend top dollar on a new rifle and then a further couple of hundred to get it as good as it should be out of the box. 1 Quote Link to post

Hi Ron. Cheers mate, its been a long haul with this rifle John Bowkett is not one for the world of computers Having said that, there are a few chaps helping him out on a Facebook page. The thing with John is, he will ALWAYS answer a call if you make one, normaly answer machine, but he WILL ring you back. He is definatly the man for BSA rifles. I know what you mean about spending more money on the rifles, and agree, you should not have to. But, as with most things that are mass produced, they are turned out to what they say, is an acceptable standard. Im sure JB would love to hand finnish his designs, but its just not possible, obviously. You do not have to spend £200 to get a rifle shooting properly, a £100 should get you there, inc return post. Its only heavy customising that starts to eek up the costs, chopping barrels/machining etc. The leisure industy is full of gimmicks, upgrades, super this and that, I suppose its finding your own balance of what your needs and wants are. What I will say is, a tune/blueprint makes a hell of a difference to consistancy, and accuracy, certainly worth thinking about, even if begrudged Bill. Quote Link to post

Sounds good mate, that will look very smart when finnished. Look forward to seeing the pictures when she has been dipped etc Re making the rifle lighter, it is a combination of several things, chopping the barrel and shroud, using a smaller buddy bottle, removing the brass reg block, and using a pipe straight through ( Fixed bottle ) and a few other bits n bobs. He thinks total weight saving of around 1 1/2 to 2 lb. The best pellets at the momment are JSB Exacts 15.9 in 5.52 same goes for my S10, it loves them. Going to try them in my Ultra too. ATB. Bill.
