while SWIMBO went shopping...

Recommended Posts

hi lads,

me and the missus came to an agreement some time ago-while she does the food shopping i take the dog for a mooch, as this solves two inter household issues;

1, it saves buying dogfood

2, it saves her losing her rag at me for winding her up in tesco's :whistling:

it took a few trips to the aforementioned to guarantee the permission but its proved to be a winner, for me at least, and so whilst she got the veggies in, i took the prosport out last night and bagged a couple of young un's for the dog up the valley, which is just about my favourite place in the world to be, regardless of the fact that its public access land with the south downs way going down one side of it...

the bushes down the right hand side of the valley are where i can usually be found of an evening, and the view from the far end goes across the river adar and gives you a brilliant view of the sun going down over chanctonbury ring, but typically i havent taken a photo of that :icon_redface:

anyhow, we got up there last night, and met up with my buddy nick, who's recently acquired dinky, a jack pup, now 5 months old and full of mischief so they followed from a safe distance whilst me and charley got down the side where theres usually a few young uns about, and as its for dog food and times a factor while jax's is doing the rounds we popped the first one we saw that wasn't quite mouse sized, a nice 26m downhill sitting shot, so 1 mildot of holdunder and the familiar doink! noise of the pro sports spring was followed by a gratifying twack of pellet on skulland it went over, with charley speeding down the hill to retrieve it from where it fell. easy money...

we cracked on and followed the hedgerow along to see a couple of young uns playing at about 35m away so, feeling cocky cos me pal was watching, i dropped to one knee and took the shot. doink! thwack! job done and off charley went again to grab it, scaring off everything else in sight and sound that hadnt run at the noise of the shot.

we gave the dogs a quick walk and then the phone went so time to grab herself and a pint for me, an ashtray of beer for charley, although nick took this un as we walked back to our cars. thats dinks in the foreground, bless her

you may note the jumper is the one i was wearing when out with si last year. i've managed to keep it away from jax as it no longer smells remotely human and has assumed the status of 'wurz's lucky jumper'

bit long winded over just two kitts but i enjoyed meself so i thought i'd share it with youz

cheers, wurz

Good on you mate! The stock on your pro-sport looks absolutely stunning! Really nice looking rifle. Are you only shooting with springers these days?

I've just aquired a new pup - staffy/jack russell cross. She's about 8 months old, and I'm her third home in that time. She's not going anywhere now though. She's into everything, and pretty much impossible to keep occupied, but I'm hopeful when she's older and calmer she'll come out with me!

ron mate,

if you can find a way to calm down a terrier then let me know please buddy, as short of feeding the little f :censored: er valium i've not worked it out yet...

i'm shooting the hw100 still but, if i've a choice then its springers everytime as theyre just so much more fun, just classic airgunning mate. means i've had to shorten my ranges for now but i'm loving learning to shoot a proper airgun again, just top fun and a proper crack. i really feel like i've earned a shot with a springer

cheers, wurz

Haha, I'll probably order some valium as a back up!

I know what you mean, I put a new scope on my HW95K this weekend, and I spent a couple of hours paper punching with it this afternoon. Quite looking forward to getting out in the field with it for a couple of hours.

cheers lads,

and thanks for the kind comments concerning the pro sport, it does look nice, but feels damn near perfect :boogie:

@mickey, youre right, it would be a great rough shoot were it not for the amount of dog walkers that use it as well, but its perfect for the airgun cos of that. i count myself VERY lucky to be able to shoot there, as the views are stunning amongst everything else. i'll bung up some more photo's of it when poss, so i can make everyone jealous lol

cheers, wurz

A very nice write up mate, tastefull pictures too (which are far better to my eye than loads of blood dotted head shots) love your jumper - sure I caught a whiff of it up here! Thats a great bit of land you have for shooting over, a real escape from it, so open as well, demanding good field craft and approach.

Well done Wurz.

the orange bailing twines gone on the '80 mark mate lol, thanks again for that mate! glad you liked the pictures, i think thats the direction that i shall be taking my photography in future as it goes. i did the headshots originally to show i was going for humane kills with good shot placement but i think most everyone realises thats the case now, or hopefully so. i dont think i could 'top' the last posts gorefest anyway, nor to be honest do i want to!!!

cheers for the comments mate,

all the best, wurz

Hello mate.

Coming late on the responses John but, that was a great read and pics of your lovely permission. Now isn't that just a perfect way to spend a couple of hours of an evening. Out with your spring rifle, (and your dog, in your case) and no worries about it's reliabilty, running out of air, or accuracy. Ahh just fine.

The walnut stock you've got is a beautiful cut of timber John. Air Arms do source some truly gorgeous strains of walnut for their rifles. No mistake.

Your permission looks lovely too. There is a magic, just stalking by your fieldcraft with a superbly built, well-sorted and scoped up, elegant spring rifle and a plentiful supply of ammo that pre-charged never has.

I had such an evening to myself last night, deep into my valley permission, with a bag of 11 rabbits to my HW77. Despite the grey overcast and a bit of sporadic showers, it was just that hour when the rabbits are out where you are; and you and the rifle are singing. A great moral booster as I'd wrecked the barrel of my beloved HW80K that afternoon (slipped out of my hand while cocking it, bugger!) I hit mine from ranges as close as 15 metres righty out to over 60. Parabolic plungeing trajectory hits makes a nasty mess of a bunny's head. Not nice to view.

Great to see you've bonded so well with your new rifle John. It looks all the beautiful shooting instrument I thought it would be.
