smallest cocker bitch

Recommended Posts

I'v got a couple of cockers, one very small who has no problems retrieving pheasants, they tend to mouth them initially to get a good firm hold and balance and the deliver in to me, fun to watch as cock birds nearly as big as my bitch but no problems or hesitation, fabulous breed wouldn't have anything else, only slightly biased !

If your going to be picking up on a large shoot then i wouldn't get a small cocker...... Seen them get burned out easily in thick cover and deep snow. Horses for courses...

I would agree with that lab-tastic if he was getting a dog specifically for picking up then i would say get a lab but i think he's asking is the cocker he already has too small for picking up, imo even the smallest of cockers can put a good shift in picking up.

very unlikely she's too small- even the smallest cockers have enough heart to make up for their size. Give her a try- if she can pick a dummy she can pick a bird!

 i put you on me chirstmas card list haha

 ....yes reading it again i see he has the dog already. Dont get me wrong i've seen many a good cocker work on a shoot day but i've seen a few that just struggle with carrying heavy birds through rough terrain, especially if you are working a steep banking...

I'v seen my cockers push through tight cover to eye wipe labs ! I have both for picking up, make a great team using labs for longer picks and cockers for sweeping areas at end of each drive, both work different to achieve the bagwhich is the important fact at end of day, cockers come in to their own on lost birds, lower to ground I think scenting ability exceeds labs !
