i set a one rabbit snare in a field, just because i had one in my coat pocket. the next day i went to check my larsen i had caught a cub, i was astonished, the snare loop was the size of a jam jar lid and i caught a cub thats skull was bigger than the loop. i think his nose must of opened the loop, because there heads are tappered.

yep cubs stick there noses in first

Now thats a very interesting remark considering their noses are on the front of their faces :whistling:

rabbit peg wires are more than capable of taking young cubs around the neck their noses dont open the noose they fit straight in as you said they have a small tapering head and a normal peg snare wire has plenty of room for error . As with rabbits the setting hight is the same and this is when you pick them up . now an adult thats a different story , usually they get caught around the leg and just bite straight through the wire as though it had been cut with wire snips we normally average two or three over the season ,nice one micky  those two wont be stealing any game birds in the future

bloody hell woodga , you are alive, there were rumours that you had eloped with rob sharpe to gretna green and married in secret, then set up a retirement home in broxburn for all the old rabbits you cannot catch
