mackem 26,819
We went to Africa a couple of hundred years ago, sorry about that!.........whats that?........Slavery you say?..........yes, all our fault, very sorry! Thats inherited guilt,if thats the case the english owe me reparation for the highland clearances in the 1900's,inherited guilt is an outmoded concept. I always thought Roosevelts quote was about squaddies not coppers, nothing honourable about Harwoods actions, just another bully-boy in uniform going from his past record. mackem 26,819
a police officer should get hauled over the coals for basically a push And a baton-strike,his actions were way over the top in the situation, tomlinson was facing away Harwood pops out of a group of coppers and assaults him. WILF 47,218
Point is, everyone always moans about how the bad guys get all the best treatment, but if we continually second guess the very people we put in place to deal with the bad guys, then what the f**k do you think is gonna happen? mackem 26,819
the bad guys get all the best treatment Sometimes the coppers ARE the bad guys wilf, thats fact.

As i said if you start putting people in jail for incidents like this then the will be no room in any prisons in the uk by the end of the week.
WILF 47,218
the bad guys get all the best treatment Sometimes the coppers ARE the bad guys wilf, thats fact. Sometimes in order to deal with criminals, you have to be one step removed from being one yourself.........thats a well known truth. Lets face it, you aint sending the sally army down there to deal with a rioting mob are you mate
mackem 26,819
Sometimes in order to deal with criminals, you have to be one step removed from being one yourself But a number of them are not ONE step removed wilf,as the number of ex-coppers now serving time or sacked etc will testify,at the end of the day we cant give plod licence to mete out whatever form of justice they deem fit in a given situation,Harwood was as bad as the G20 rioters he was supposed to be policing,he disguised his identity and assaulted a guy in a particularly cowardly way. Lab 10,979
Just watched the video again to refresh my memory and imo i think he is deliberately walking slow with his hands in his pockets to hinder the police. Deserved a push.....unfortunately he died!!

Ideation 8,216
They sign up for the job and get payed for it - they are not some kind of volunteer heros. They know what they can and can't do when they sign up. If they cross the line, they have to deal with the consequences. Just like, if i go in a fight in a pub and hit some one a few too many times and did some serious damage, i couldn't say 'sorry i didn't mean to'. Also, the police are not some kind of crusaders of good, for most of them it's just a job. I've met plenty of police who take drugs, get in fights, try to intimidate people (especially door staff), are sleazy and lecherous etc. Why should they have a carte blanche to act as they like, just because they have a uniform to hide behind. So many of them are just bullies who like to push folk around, especially in this country (and the states). I've witnessed some pretty f****d up stuff that police have done in riots / protests, and most of the time it's not because they are 'scared, on the front lines protecting the innocent etc', it's because they relish the chance to use their batons and shields and roar and charge and play at being soldiers. If you stick on a uniform and hold yourself up as 'the good guys' you better be prepared to be scrutinised. And just because you are a cop and the dead guy is a homeless guy doesnt make it ok. Would people find it so ok, if the dead guy had been a nice middle class father of 2, etc etc etc, and because he walked a bit slow was cracked in the head and killed? If you can't keep your anger in check because someone is walking a bit slow in front of you and winding you up, you need to get a new job.
Born Hunter 17,780
The same incident just seen from different angles Thats true,I have had bad dealings with the police, thats probably coloured my views against them. Alot of people have, thats why so many are baying for blood and not truth and justice. Not to say your one of these mackem. On a different note, it was only weeks ago many (including myself) would have liked to have seen hard policing like that on the streets of our cities.
mackem 26,819
Not to say your one of these mackem My views are jaundiced by bully-boy tactics and unfair treatment mate,I dont have a criminal record in this country, but I have still had bad dealings with plod here, though I have seen countries where they are allowed to get away with lots more and they take full advantage of the extra latitude.
