CarraghsGem 92
sheep dip is brilliant, ive got a collie as well as terriers so its handy for me, if the dog keeps scratching/chewing at the bald spots after the mange has cleared put petroleum jelly on the bald/itchy spots daily, it helps it heal a bit quicker
sallie 67
The vet gave me stronghold which is similar to advocate and it works better for preventing mange and you can give it to whelping bitches. http://www.nutrecare.co.uk/Product-1727/Dog-Medicines-prescription-required/Stronghold-for-dogs
lurchergrrl 1,441
ver messy bout burnt enigne oil works That's about the worst thing you can do Advocate or Stronghold, hibiscrub etc is the way to go. Like Mr D says, if you're not 100% confident about dosing with Ivermectin don't do it. It's dangerous stuff.
Moorsman 17
Duramitex pal as said may be hard to get hold of but it's the business ask some one with birds best one with pidgeons atb
sallie 67
stronghold is supposed to be the best for mange rather than advocate.

Guest FTBBTH
i dont know much about mange, but one of our dogs we had a while go had it and we bought camrosa cream, shampoo treatment. clean the dog off with it, put the cream on and it is great, if it doesnt work the first time try it again, it worked first time for us. atb mate

Tsayad 88
ver messy bout burnt enigne oil works That's about the worst thing you can do With respect, have you tried it? I've had to treat an elderly kelpie with one of the worst cases of mange that I've seen on a dog. Treated her with clean engine oil broken down with just enough diesel to make it rub through the coat (what's left of it) Within 3-4 days of the first treatment, the redness had gone out of her skin and after another two treatments over the subsequent 10 days the irritated areas scabbed over and healed normally. Next year the thickness and health of her coat was remarkable for an old dog. No recurrence. As far as "sheep dip" is concerned, it may pay to check exactly which product is being used. Different products use different active ingredients and different carriers, so what may work in on brand may not be what is in another. Just be careful, is all..
