A really well written post I have owned and shot air rifles in the past and am now looking to buy my first PCP air rifle, although I'm stuck on which one to buy have you any recommendations on a good air rifle for under £500. Also have you any tips on maintenance on basic maintenance such as cleaning, oiling etc.

 

Any views appreciated.

That is a post that is useful to all... i'm an old air rifle hunter that is just returning to this hobby because i have more time on my hands and i've learned alot from this post...i've recently purchased a Benjamin nitro piston pistol in 1.77 and although i've had to mod the trigger i'm getting some good groups from it now and have a good understanding of the mechanics behind it ....Cheers

Just started using HW100 .20 with great results. As you rightly said a compromise between .177 and .22 but what a good one!

Look at your requirements for today as well as the future, it is a tool and not a fashion statement. Take your time when looking, do not rush in and pay well over the odds. You are the one who has to live with your decision, it is your money and also your choice. There are not that many bad air rifles now days. £1000 plus air rifles are not the Holy Grail as are the Low End not the Pits. Skills of the shooter are more important. Practice, Practice, Practice and more Practice is always a help. £1000 plus and Low End air rifles are only as good as all the step by step expectations and the final pass expectation at the factory. The more bells and whistles it has the more that can and finally will go wrong. JUST MY THOUGHTS

Well, I happen to think the HW100KT looks very trendy, and is under £1000 pounds, and they are a lot better than the cheaper guns, because we've all shot the cheaper guns, car boots are rammed with them, why? because nobody wants them.

Not everyone can afford around £750 for a HW100KT trendy looking or not, should those who are on a low budget think that cheaper air rifles are worthless and only good for the car boot sale? Absolutely not. £750 is a lot of money and there are much cheaper rifles that can shoot just as well. PCP, Spring, and all other kinds of pellet rifles.

The price of any goods has nothing to do with quality. Read my words properly before passing judgment, I did not say that I could not afford £750. And good for you if you had to save up.

Hi Markman and everyone.

Just got my first rifle, S410 carbine .177, (DOM. 8/2009).

Paid £300 which I think was good considering what come with it.

Richter Optik 3-9X50 AOE,

Harris SLM bipod,

Silencer/moderator (I think this is the AA model) and a

David Nickerson rifle slip case (after reading the posts, better keep it clean and dry before putting in the slip case, thanks Markman!)

Tin of pellets.

Also, come with an Ernest Hill pump and spare refill adapter.

 

The bar pressure is showing just below 100, however, no amount of pumping seems to move the needle. I don’t want to keep pumping in case the pressure meter is no longer working and I end up damaging any seals. I have noticed after the air power drops (dry firing sound is much lower) it will increase after using the Hill pump for 5 minutes.

 

I'm not sure what’s going on here. Is the pressure meter broke, are the seals failing at 90/95 psi, or maybe the pumps faulty.

 

Any ideas what’s going on?

 

Or, should I just get a refill tank or maybe get it serviced? (Anyone know how much a service cost?)

 

Was also thinking maybe sell it on and get the S410 tdr.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

I would not use a pump to much crap and moisture can get into your gun , dive cylinder is a must imo
