Lug Worm Hands???

Does anyone else get "sore" fingers/hands after using lug worm? For a few years now my hands and especially my fingers seem to swell up and tingle for a day or so after digging and fishing with them. Is it just me?

Never had that problem, but the fecking dye does my head in! Try using some barrier cream before you start handling them.

It's iodiene in the worms makes the fingers look like you smoke 100 fags a day. You may be a bit sensitive to the iodiene or the salt causing a problem. A barrier cream would probably help or thin latex type gloves.

on another subject how do get them to stop bursting , i know its down to the pressure av tried newspaper and keeping them in a bucket of sand ,still guts everywhere the black lug seems worse

You can keep Blacks for a few days by keeping them in trays of fresh sea water. The water only needs to be about the depth of the lug and do not put too many lug in the tray. Change the water every 12 hours. If they still burst throw them in sawdust with salt mixed in with it, to take up most of the moisture.

 

Then wrap them idividually in cling film and pop them in the freezer they will be good for a year. But if they have goner off when you open them, use them for flounders they love manky balcks.

gut them the best,dont kill the worms and they stay alive for days after.also need to gut them if your going to freze them down.

Buy a box of latex gloves and put it in your tackle box.

 

I usually take gloves if i'm fishing all day as I don't like bait flavoured sandwiches.
