border lad 1,047
yes a good whippet, can take a Hare, if the Hare, jumped 10 or 20 yards of them, it was short and sweet, that was a 19lb dog, and there was another dog my mate had 27lb whippet, must have had a touch of greyhound in there, he was like greased lighting, as they say, he was mustard, but thin coats, and poor feet, I have never kept one myself, I prefere, a more robust type dog, Quote Link to post
banjo14 49
i gave a whippet to a good friend of mine he is sooty sam lines and only 17 1/2 inches he has taken a few hare's but he would have to be right on top of them at the start or would'nt stand a chance as he couldnt gain much ground on a hare. i would have thought a bigger whippet would be ok. Blue one 89
but thin coats, and poor feet, I have never kept one myself, I prefere, a more robust type dog, most pure whippets, have good feet, sounds like you have never kept a whippet before!? Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Think there are a good number out there that have / do catch hares. Whippets have better stamina than people realize. There were whippet coursing clubs and meets pre-ban. Quote Link to post

stevemac 434
my whippet took one yesterday afternoon out on a turf farm was great to watch. pretty sure my staghounds are quicker but they take a week to make a turn them make the ground up again. the whippet turns om a sixpence and stays on therms with his hare. hes 21 inches tts and quite strong made for a pur whippet. hes not a regestered dog but im sure he would go back to kennel club stuff. ill put a pick up when I get a chance. keepitcovert 842
Christ theres some shit talked on here a whippet around 30lbs is more than capable of taking hares, as for poor feet and thin skin, usually a remark from someone with a total ignorance of the breed, mine regularly took hares in jan and feb not in summer, a fit hare is the ultimate chase for any dog no matter what cross or purebreed. 1 Quote Link to post
