trigger2 3,146
A well bred saluki bitch as the base then the sire a fast type of collie/grey beddy/grey type. what percent collie/grey beddy/grey would you prefer to use for the sire? half crosses 3/4 bred? Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
That' simple - a dog, a bitch and a copy of D.B. Plummer's 'Practical Lurcher Breeding' - what could possibly go wrong!!!! Worked well for someone Quote Link to post
coney clucky 93
wouldnt mind a bull xgrey to a deerhound geyhound think would be good mix or saluki bull deerhound xgreyhound Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
For me personally i would like a collie x, either 3/4 x 3/4, or 3/4 x 5/8 3/8, and preferably a breeding of one dog that has been a VERY prolific rabbit dog, lamping, bushing, ferreting and the other a very handy dog on stuff that bites. The idea being to create a pup capable of both, and a generally more rugged dog than a straight 3/4 (i.e half x pure). At least that's my theory. Looking at what i do and the land i hunt, and what quarry is there, i think that would cover all angles, and last well. Quote Link to post
blackpack 70
me personally i like a deer hound bull x grey or near on that, have excellent drive power and determination, and feet seem to hold up on most ground, and they seem to be able to deal with all quarry Quote Link to post
fert 0
just a question why would you want deerhound in the mix then whippet ? Quote Link to post
blackpack 70
just a question why would you want deerhound in the mix then whippet ? i already have a whippet x and they just lack that wind bud Quote Link to post
KittleRox 2,147
Quite a difficult one this I wouldn,t mind a pup bred this way , 3/4 grey 1/4 collie to a 3/4 grey 1/4 bull, but if the pup turned out leaning towards the bull I may be dissapointed ? Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
A well bred saluki bitch as the base then the sire a fast type of collie/grey beddy/grey type. what percent collie/grey beddy/grey would you prefer to use for the sire? half crosses 3/4 bred? If it was just collie a 3quarter grey/collie after having once owned one out of such breeding.I would prefer a lurcher with both collie/grey and beddy/grey though to go back to a pure saluki having had dogs in the past but out of saluki/greys the same way bred and was more than happy with them. lamping lurchers 34
sire deer x saluki grey dam collie grey x bull grey, then hopefully the best of both worlds Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Thing is, all of this mixing and matching, is where you hope it all comes together right. And at 8 weeks it's a bit hard to tell. Quote Link to post
bird 9,982
me personally i like a deer hound bull x grey or near on that, have excellent drive power and determination, and feet seem to hold up on most ground, and they seem to be able to deal with all quarry another good x above, if not to big would be spot on for most stuff Quote Link to post
