Lurcher Breeding ? What is needed.

Recommended Posts

I'll start the ball rolling; MUST have Greyhound as the base.... then I'd like to see Saluki, Deerhound, Bedlinglton, Whippet, and even though I'm not a fan, Bull ! But is there any other breed you'd like to put to a Greyhound to produce a Lurcher ? I missed out Collie, simply because I've only had one Collie cross, and it was shite !! Doesn't mean they all are, but that's just my view !!

Cheers.

I agree, a good collie x greyhound, is hard to beat for edible game, add a touch of Saluki to the mix, and you have it all for Edible,

my ideal x would be if some one out there has this base would be Dam 3/4 grey 1/4 beardie, about 25" sire, Saluki grey, 26" 27")))) both parents proven workers, (((( a bitch pup please)))))

A well bred saluki bitch as the base then the sire a fast type of collie/grey beddy/grey type.

yes with saluki bred bitch or good coursing bitch, to a good bullxgrey you should get plenty of speed+stamina, and drive+brain . A good worker to worker, on any quarry

But what are we breeding for?A rabbit dog,a fox dog,a hare dog,a deer dog or the all-rounder.....be honest Charti theres a lot of variables.

Now if I was breeding for myself then I'd go for the dog you showed such disdain for by mentioning as an after-thought.

Collie/Greyhound 3/4 if you're planning a all-rounder and 1/2 x or 5/8 3/8 to cover the rest.
