what would happen if.......

Recommended Posts

okay, so i was just wondering what would happen if i went shooting in a field i didnt have permission on ?

so lets say hypothetically that there is a field 5 min's walk from my front door and in that field there was a perfect natural hide overlooking a quite frankly huge rabbit warren sadly though most of these older rabbits have got a bad case of mixy but anyway i was wondering if i went down there without any permission before sunrise and stayed there till sunset to avoid being seen but someone walked past and saw me and reported it to the police without me knowing and the cops walked round the corner and saw me themselves ( this is all hypothetical by the way ) i wouldnt want to risk losing my air rifle and ruin any chance at getting a SGC and FAC would they give me a thorough bollocking and let me off or would the whole cavalry arrive with armed police ect ect and id spend the rest of my life with a criminal record with no chance of getting licenses in the future. i have spent the last few hours trying to find something about it on the internet and i have come up with nothing so i was wondering if anybody has had a brush with the law over this matter or they know what would happen i would like to know because im sure many of you know trying to get a permission is like getting blood from a stone because of poachers giving the decent lads a bad name. :headshot::

cheers all.

It is against the law to trespass on any land (including land covered by water) or in any building, while you have an air rifle with you. Whether the gun is loaded or whether or not you have pellets with you is irrelevant.

If you go onto land without permission, you are trespassing, unless there is some right of access for the public. If there is a right of access for the public the restrictions set out above will apply.

Trespass with an air rifle is 'armed trespass', a criminal offence, the penalties for which can be severe.

The Penalties for breaking current UK firearms laws with Airguns are as follows:-

Carrying a loaded Air-weapon in a public place 6 months imprisonment and / or £5,000 fine.

Trespassing with an air weapon 3 months imprisonment and / or £2,500 fine.

Trespassing on private land with an air weapon 3 months imprisonment and / or £2,500 fine.

Quoting your last sentence, "im sure many of you know trying to get a permission is like getting blood from a stone because of poachers" if you do it surely that will make you a poacher also?? police would turn up and assuming they follow protocal youd be left with the offence of "armed tresspass" and severly damage your chances of and gun licence in the future. DONT RISK IT MATE, imagine how gutted you would be if you got caught and could never get you SGC or FAC

Not read all the replies, because most will mention the prospect of armed trespass.

BUT hypothetically you could wind up dead with a round from the local ARU in your centre of mass
