Where would I get in the ROI or UK

Like the title says I'm looking for soft ground berkshire stakes (with cable attached) to anchor snares I'm planning on setting in boggy ground. Have seen them on that auction site but postage from the states is a joke. Does anyone have any links or ideas?

Thanks in advance,

John.

On soft ground I have used a 15" wooden or angle peg, but with the wire attached about 5 inches from the point not at the top of it. It saves the fox pumping the stake to get it to draw out. Maybe it will work for your ground - a little longer perhaps if it is really wet and loose. ;)

Cheers OTC :) Yeah when I say bog I mean bog, and it's certainly wet. You mean angle iron? I never thought of that thanks :thumbs-up: On the wooden peg you use, would they be hardwood or soft? I've snared fox before going through a drain underneath a wall, this will be my first real go at open ground though.

I have used 'green' sweet chestnut pegs with a crook at one end and a point at the other - they are very resilient to hammering and don't very often split - cut them from the bigger 'suckers' at the base of the tree. Split ash makes good snare pegs but it will be difficult to split the length that you need to hold in soft ground. I have used angle iron as I said above but it would be a last resort as a canny fox will steer clear of the smell of too much iron in a wild setting.

A heavy and 'immovable' object might be another possible anchor if charlie pulls out the pegs described above - a breeze block or similar has worked for me in the past, so long as you can hide it from view and it is well weathered.

Thanks in advance, give me a pm and i,ll show you how to make the simplest of earth anchors for free and you don,t need snare cable , or wooden pegs , my type are used in canada , and its a 2 second attachment to fit and remove your snares , i devised this in 1987, woodga uses them , snareman.
