dytkos 17,800
I've trawled through all the old posts on here and read lots on 'Tinternet but I've more or less decided on a pair of Lowa Mountain GTX. Has any one got/tried these and are they as good as people say? Thanks in advance for the numerous replies Cheers, D. Quote Link to post

WILF 46,898
A close pal of mine is in the army and he wont ware any other boots but Lowa, used them all the way through P company and 2 tours of Afghanistan so they must have something going for them. I have a pair myself and Meindls as well, both very good but different....on the Fells or in Scotland I would use my Miendls everytime but thats just personal preferance, for a nights lamping on the fields and flatlands when you may be doing a fair bit of walking then I will use the Lowa. The Lowa sole is quieter than the Meindl and the boot itself is not as ridgid/stiff I have also just got some Meindl desert boots for the summer and they are brilliant. Hope that helps in some small way Quote Link to post

dytkos 17,800
Had 'em a couple of weeks now and have covered about 40 or 50 miles in them on the moor and on farmland etc. Comfy enough straight out of the box but now feel spot on. Gave a coat of Grangers before I first went out in them, just got to wait for the bad weather and some digging to really test them properly. Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
Altberg boots are by far the best. I'm in the army and everybody here swears by them. Altberg peacekeepers. Lows boots are spot on aswell, they're a bit heavy for running about and wearing for everyday use but when we go on exercise and the shit hits the fan we wear lowas. Mine have been through so much shit, been in some seriously bad condition and have been treated like shit an they are still going strong. Altberg or lows boots are the way forward lads Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,800
Never heard of the Altbergs mate, any links? (not that I should need any new boots for a year or two, hopefully)! Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
