Bolt 0
Get two pairs of trousers on and get in there! I'm often to be seem around my locality leaping in hedges or diving into patches of brambles not quite sure what your activities around the school gates have got to do with the subject Quote Link to post
rob190364 2,594
I know this is an old thread but I gave this a go today. Attached a cat bell to my hobs collar and entered him into a large patch of brambles (approx 10m x 10m) that the dog had just chased a couple of rabbits into. I have to say, it worked as well as I hoped it would do! It was easy to follow the ferrets progress with the bell and he spent a good 5 minutes chasing them around the brambles. Admittedly it wasn't exactly the most effective way to actually flush the rabbits but it was a bloody good run for the hob and it was quite cool quietly moving around the outside of the brambles with the dog waiting for one to bolt. He managed to bolt one of them. Had him working two different patches and he did quite well in both. Don't know if it'd be possible if it had been raining though cos the bell would probably get muddied up..........and like people said when I first put this up, there's always a chance they could slip down a covered warren. But if you've got time to sit it out if they do go underground, I'd recommend giving it a go (in the right patch of brambles).....it's strangely addictive! Quote Link to post
The one 8,511
We had one in a garden during the summer we walked the garden with the dog and i saw a rabbit run across the drive and go into a old lime tree about three foot off the ground .The guys Gardner thought i was making it up and said so ,So we popped a ferret into the tangled mass of branches only to see a rabbit and the ferret doing laps round this tree from six to twelve foot off the ground . The gardner said sorry that was the first time ive seen that i didn't let on it was the same for me :toast: Quote Link to post

NEWKID 27,531
If you can get the hob doing that mate there'll be no need for a terrier lol. Nothing is set in stone mate and if it means you get another cuple in the bag with a bit of improvisation then fair play to you.......... by the way did your dog catch the bolter. Quote Link to post

No, she came close but we were tracking the hob and it bolted on the opposite side. Gave her a good run though, it went flying into another set of brambles but these ones are close to a road so I couldn't enter my hob into them...bugger! we'll get him next time though! Unlucky mate, I enjoy using the terrier to bolt to my lurcher, to be honest we don't catch many like this, but I enjoy watching them work together. My Jrt has caught quite a few in the cover, not as rewarding as seeing a run, but keeps her happy. Quote Link to post
