rob190364 2,594
rats have come up through my downstairs toilet and have chewed a hole in the plaster board and gone up through the wall into the small loft above the toilet. They're can't get into the rest of the house but I want to get rid of them. I've tried setting little nipper rat traps and they just ignore them no matter what I put on them (tried with bread, tuna, peanut butter, chicken and beef). I've tried a cage trap with all of these baits in and again they just ignore it. I've tried some of that prebaited poison that smells like aniseed and I put it in a neat pile so I could tell if they'd had any and it's untouched. What am I doing wrong? I'm well stumped, I though it'd be a piece of piss catching rats! Any help would be eternally appreciated! Quote Link to post

SEAN3513 7
sticky boards look HERE place them in the runs / point of entry Quote Link to post
ratattack 111
Sounds like a buggered drain to me, get it checked and repaired asap or you will be having probs for yonks! Get a coupla kg of grain bait from an agi merchant and bait it on saucers etc. The rats will find the traps but they will need to be put in the right places by runs etc and LEFT ALONE, don't keep moving them. Tiercel 6,986
I think that the best bait to use is what they are feeding on. I have yearly infestations of rats and the first signs are where they have burst open a bin bag to get at the sunflower seeds from cleaning out the parrot. Once I see that I prime the traps. I have found sunflower seeds good, peanut butter has worked well for me also. The best bait I have found though is dried ferret food, they seem to love that. TC Quote Link to post
