Recommended Posts

right first off this is to everyone on the site and IS NOT intended to cause any friction between members of the site :victory: but i f*****g love lurchers i could not imagine life without one about me!!! they are, in my opinion, the best working dogs in the countryside and without doubt the most versatile working dogs for all round hunting :victory: anything any other breed of dog can do in the field there will be a lurcher that given the chance could do it just as good  people spend silly money on fat labs (sorry L-T :tongue2: ) and they end up with a dog that retrieves just aswell as a lurcher will  people spend silly money on spaniel for hunting rough cover but end up with a dog that does it just as good as a lurcher will  and after a lurcher has done all that they still can go lamping all night and ferreting the next day then of course pre ban they could be used on foxes, hares and deer providing the circumstances were all coherent with the law!!! apart from the terriers job id say there is NOTHING a well bred, well trained lurcher couldnt do that the most expensive gun dogs get field trail certificates for  they truly are the best of the best :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

I agree a lurcher probably wouldn't be any good for field trials but they would be fine for what most people use retrievers for.

I'm not doubting that mate, well actually i do a bit. But it makes me laugh when people think field trials are just retrieving a few dead birds or something.

I agree you couldn't ever do well in field trials with a lurcher no matter what. Most working labs are only used to run a few yards and pick up a pheasant though. That is what I think a lurcher would be capable of.

That's not what i would call a workinng lab. That's a shit dog whatever breed. Most folk always slag off gun dogs and they have never seen really good ones working, they are impressive. Horses for courses. That's why we've had them for a long long time, just like lurchers.

agree with a lot you say but they are never going to compare with a specialised working feild trial or shooting dog at their own game .like as been said. more to it than meets the eye thats why the best command so much money .
