for what its worth, i know of 5 bullxgreys that have done the same thing, and all died. They (bullxs) over heat and carnt cool down quick enough. So it can bring (high blood preasure)(stroke), thats what my vet said when i bullxgrey died. And when running in warm weather (summer) you stand a greater risk fact. My dog died after 7 runs, got 5 rabbits then had good run on a fox this was in the 80s. It missed the fox tried hard them buggers can twist+turn, then he came back. He stood still then just went over and never came to, and that was end of him, this was in november and it was not that cold really. So somthing to think about.

Hey I wonder why bull xs overheat and can't cool down? Did your vet give an explanation for this? Just curious?

when i had my saluki bull grey at vets they said that they have alot of thick muscle and the blood is hard to pass trough them and makes them cramp up or sometimes tremmer mine gets a slight tremmer on shoulders when he is ran hard seen lots of dogs do this not just bull x i give him asprin to thin blood so it can pass through better to stop this i didnt know they overheat more this might have something to do with it

he just said some breeds are designed to run fast+stamina, with good metabolic rates = collies,saluiks,....... But other breeds even fit+strong , have differnt level of stamina (kind) so there M/R is differnt which as to work twice as hard can give Big probs  , not saying all but it as happened to a few i know of.!

If you think of the mass of the subject against the available surface area for heat loss, the bigger the muscle the lower the surface area percentage. Then we have large muscles have greater cellular volume and so greater capabilities to create heat as the by product of that cellular respiration. Basically big powerful dogs create more heat and have less surface area as a percentage to dissipate the heat, this added to the fact that a lot of bull crosses will push themselves to extremes.

Back to the case in question, vets advice first and follow their advice. Unfortunately in these cases there is often no easy diagnosis in which case run only in the winter, prepare very well by getting the dog as fit as possible and stop at the first sign of problems, alternatively retire as a pet..
