turk 09 28
If you put the dog in a deep earth then 2 deep digs is more than 10 shallow easy ones IMO yea but your not just putin the dog in and digging him out yuo want him to be looking and digging on aswell as digging him out a few like that then up the pace Quote Link to post
hack 301
as hedz 31 as already said dont really have set amount of digs for first season i have a dog and bitch ready for next season they will be 17 month old september which for me personally is right age to start them off if i got 6or7 digs each out of them i would be more than happy for the fist season Quote Link to post

If the game was as green as the grass or was digging on and wouldn't face the dog then would it matter how deep the earth was ?. Quote Link to post
Dabhand 887
If the game was as green as the grass or was digging on and wouldn't face the dog then would it matter how deep the earth was ?. good question id also like to see a young un in as many situations as possible,if it was hard then it would need longer rest than others 8 to 10 digs would be ample for its first full season. fat man 4,741
there is very few of us that hasn fooked up a young dog and probably less that will admit it And any man that says they have'nt are liars.I brought a bitch from england in the late 90s and dug her the very next day,she was 13 months. Then i was perswaded to dig to her again 3 days later and she done her job but took a lot of stick in a bad place under roots.I gave her about 6 weeks off then but when i took her out again she did'nt want to know.A good bitch spoilt by stupidity. Guest dee mac
it happens as there s a fine line between too much too young and two little as i think a young dog thats been molly cuddled and get s it easy for long periods can get a big shock when they meet a fiesty bit of game and think too themselves this aint what im used too and be out beside you just as quick as a young dog over matched at a young age. yes young dogs need too be entered sensibly but you need to be pushing them on a bit after each dig to let them know that there s going too be many days were there going too have too earn there dinner and also too see if they have the most important thing in my opinion DETERMINATION . VOON 1,317
I'd give him around 6-10 digs depending on the difficulties encountered, if they get plenty of hardship leave of for 3 months or so and only work small game Voon Quote Link to post
