romany52 313
went out for a walk today with my 10 month old pup. hes been walked through sheep since fiteen weeks and hs been fine. jumped in shep field and he started running around with the sheep jus playing, got him back smacked him, and he never botherd them for about five mins, and he started chasing again just playing and he ran over the brow with my mates terrier, i ran over and he had killed a decent sized lamb. i hit him propperly once got it off and he was still trying to dodge out of the way of me to get it. what do you recomend i should do now. You can't be sure they killed the lamb unless it was still alive when you got their, it may have been already dead. Regardless of that, the first thing you should have done, after getting the lead on, is to thrash the dog with the dead lamb whilst giving it the biggest verbal warning of it's life. If you have the patience and ability the dog can be turned round, the shock collar should only be used as a last resort, then only by someone who knows what they are doing. Mike. Link to post

BORDERSCOT 3,816
just walked the pup through 3 fields of sheep and lambs, never batterd an eye lid, then let him off in a field next to sheep and he just walked up the fence line sniffing the grass ????????? i dont know. I've read the thread mate and I had a similar experience over 20 years ago. I had a 1st x collie geyhound who, as far as I was concerned had been properly and dilligently stock broken by myself when he was a wee puppy! I was on horseback and had my 3/4 collie greyhound and the 1st cross with me. The sheep belonged to me so I didn't have any explaining to do. To cut it short the half-bred chased a sheep into the river - he was herding it more than wanting to grab it. I found both him and the ewe in the river in a stand-off. She was a fiesty old blackface and was going to stand for no shit. He knew he'd done wrong. I was on a young horse so couldn't really get off to deal with it. I roared and swore and bollocked him off the face of the earth. And the next day we kicked off again with stock breaking. Back to basics. He never looked at another sheep again. You have the added problem that the sheep was killed - that may make things more difficult. Get back to basics and drill it into him time and again and when you think you've got it right drill him again. Good luck! Edited May 16, 2011 by BORDERSCOT Link to post

Bad choice of words my dogs know fine well theyre not on the menu i keep right on top of them on that score and they wont even look at them.Flints always been good never been interested growing up next to a field full of them.Any dog that comes here gets a walk to the fields locally to see their reaction and if they even look they get reprimanded for it Link to post
