Air Rifle Sold (wants to pay by cheque)

Recommended Posts

Hi Lads

I've got someone interested in my BSA Goldstar air rifle but they want to pay by cheque I told him that the rifle will not be posted untill the cheque has been cleared.

What are your thoughts on this lads would you accept a cheque?

Standard practice, receive cheque, pay into bank, wait until funds are cleared into your account and THEN send goods. Like selling a car, unless the funds have cleared into my account I'd not let anyone have the kit!

Warning, do not give it the standard 3 days either, a lot of people have been caught out by that, check with your bank to see how long it takes before the funds are cleared, sometimes it is a bit longer than three days! Another idea, if you have a savings account (a standard one that does not allow standing orders or direct debits) give them the account number for that and let them make a cash deposit in that, that way they can't sting you for standing orders or direct debits!

When we have sold we have done that, cash in, usually shows instantly then you can post it off in the secure knowledge the funds are there!

I allways pay by cheque and am more than happy to let the cheque clear with them before they send goods

I suppose if they have a problem with letting it clear first, they probably are up to something !

I always state I have to pay by cheque and are happy for it to clear before postage, most people send me the gear before the cheque has cleared anyway to be honest, then again im a bloody nice guy!

Only people I trust recieve cheques from me so im happy to trade like that
