Guest Ditch_Shitter
That's an interesting consideration, King. I've never owned a 'Mill myself. But I've been around one or two Greyhound (Training) Kennels in my time. Never once heard mention of them there though. The standard practice, with Racers, is to have them pysically walked by Kennel Staff. Six at a time (a " Load ") and round and round the centre area within the Track. They also get let out into paddocks for a spot of R&R and general Doggy socialisation. Never put on a 'Mill though. Ever. I really don't know why. I can't see it as being economics. Ranges of kennels, large areas of land and retinues of full time staff cost big money. Why baulk at the price of a run of 'mills? There must be another reason. I wonder what it is? Maybe this Thread will bring it to light?
Chaz 6
Some greyhound trainers use treadmills and some have used them and not got on with them, some dogs will not walk on one for anything and a lot of it is to do with greyhound trainers being stuck in their ways and not wanting to try anything new it might be the work of the DEVIL you never know. my trainer uses this circular dog walker Edited February 15, 2007 by Chaz
Cupid Stunt 18
You're showing your age there Ditch There are plenty of trainers around today that have electric walkers as shown above or treadmills ranging from single dog to up to four dogs at a time. king 11,972
the i we got is an electric treadmill goes top speed 7.2mph but the lurcher goes steady at 4mph first time i put her on it she was like an old treadmill veteran after about 5min's i unclipped her collar and lead and she was away now when she comes in she goes straight to it and stand's looking at you to turn it on i have read in old book's of people using and old car axle with 1 end in concrete and the other with a long scaffolding pole welded on top with a cage hanging of 1 side with a cat in there and a pitbull tyed to the other and the dog's running it's back leg's off trying to get at the cat or people have used big turn tables with the dog on top but you have to change the direction that the dog run's half way through his routine because he will build up 1 side of his body more than the other side
