working studs

Recommended Posts

After reading all this my dogs better etc etc, guys keep their lines not because of those reasons but because the line is tried and tested hard week in week out, if they need an outcross thaey find a suitable line of blood. I could have a dog in my yard that worked a few foxes and got marked up and to look at him you'd say he's seen loads and he looks the buisness but behind that, the dog has'nt truly been tested and I could charge a stud fee. Now if that was the case there would be substandard dogs being churned out and there'd be lads with litters of pups to get rid of. That's when the arseholes and new lads in the sport come into the equasion. They get the offer of a terrier pup that sounds great as someone has a litter they want to sell and bingo the bitches owner sells his pups the stud owner has his fee and a lot of unsuspecting lads or arseholes have now got a terrier. Now you take that senario and multiply it by say 30 and say 4 pups from each litter that's 120 pups. Will they be in the right hands? I think not. Would everyone that has got 1 of these dogs know how to go about diggin in the proper manner? Answer, NO. When guys have a good line and they breed if there is 4 pups if for some reason there is a pup or 2 pups left that are surplus they will first IMO offer them to genuine terriermen if the pups don't go then "OMG here goes", they are PTS. Those that practise welping in this manner are not there for the opportunity of a few quid they are terriermen who put working ability before anything, there's enough SH1TE dogs out there and enough puppy peddlars without the encouragement of making more of them. I also think you'll find that most dogs you'll see advertised at stud out there if not all, belong to guys trying to make a name or trying to make a fast buck, and you can be guaranteed that a lot of people that would use those sort of dogs for stud will turn out SH1TE litters (working ability). Terriermen select the dogs they breed from for working abilityand nothing else. There's enough middletons and such like out there so lets keep it that way. JMHO.

brill post mate i absolutely agree. and it would be brill if lads with a good bitch could access the best studs around(even if they are not in that persons sphere of friends). nixy said in an earlier post that greyhound, horses were not like terrier breeders, i disagree, they are striving for THE BEST POSSIBLE performance animals, same as genuine terrier lads. and to do that you need top studs, simple as. and so to me its easy, line breed to top studs=quality dogs??? really see the points you and others have brought forward, brill ,and i still dont think it was a total crap idea either!!! lol. lets keep it real and open to ideas i say :victory:
