working studs

Recommended Posts

just occurred to me has anyone thought of putting studs up on site, a bit like in back of c/weekly, edrd?, as this could really benefit future generations of working dogs (in my opinion). obviously it may need to be monitored in some way ie people vouch for working abilities or quality of pups sired etc. i guess the danger would be money lads tryin to stud crap out to earn a few quid, but on the other hand it may make a large number of quality dogs available to pool of w/terriers therby reducing culling, wasting of time etc in alot of instances? this in effect would be like horse/ greyhound breeding whereby top studs are made more readily available for use? anyway just a thought (no i havent got a stud i wish to advertise, lol).

:icon_eek: BAD BAD BAD IDEA. There's guys out there wuth line bred dogs and they're lines go back 20+ years, do you realy think they are going to share that blood with anyone? We all know there is a few genuine diggers on here and loads of fecking messers who would'nt know what end of a spade to stick in the ground to dig a hole, then you'd have people who'd be putting sub standard dogs up for stud,ie;unproven over many seasons, or good wee bolters!! :icon_eek: , this IMO is maybe the craziest idea I've ever heard it would give too many arseholes the oppurtunity to get their hands on at best a substandard digging dog, then they'd head out and wreak havoc on all sorts of earth without the slightest idea of how to dig and how to leave the ground.:no: C'mon wise up and post a thread that is interesting. wow interestin stuff!! i guess all the studs advertised over the years in edrd, cwkly then have been a total waste of time ( danny, digger, grip, chowt etcetc and all the lurchers !! ummm??? even tho they have bred some good stuff for lads who were after putting a good bitch they owned to a good dog or lookng for an outcross).

There's guys out there with line bred dogs and they're lines go back 20+ years, do you realy think they are going to share that blood with anyone? well no actually because then they couldnt play the my dogs r better than yours game could they?? my question is why not?? it may be helping somone to breed a decent terrier litter instead of turnin out more curs, (and thank god some of the lads with strains shared them in the past otherwise we would all have to reinvent the wheel over a twenty year period)? anyway i am movin off topic a tad. the whole point i was makin was that studs are already being advertised so could it be an idea to use the free web as well as paid for paper?

as i have said before ,good dogs go to mates for no money.and mates use each others dogs for stud dogs.start advertising then you get every twat within 200 miles turning up ,depends what you want i suppose.

i have to agree with that mouse thats how i have kept and acquired dogs myself for many years, but i do know that there are good dogs that could be used sensibly as outcrosses for me, you or anybody and there is no way that will happen (unless we are mates or you or i decide to let someone else have a look, but to do that i admit could be risky for points mentioned above)

After reading all this my dogs better etc etc, guys keep their lines not because of those reasons but because the line is tried and tested hard week in week out, if they need an outcross thaey find a suitable line of blood. I could have a dog in my yard that worked a few foxes and got marked up and to look at him you'd say he's seen loads and he looks the buisness but behind that, the dog has'nt truly been tested and I could charge a stud fee. Now if that was the case there would be substandard dogs being churned out and there'd be lads with litters of pups to get rid of. That's when the arseholes and new lads in the sport come into the equasion. They get the offer of a terrier pup that sounds great as someone has a litter they want to sell and bingo the bitches owner sells his pups the stud owner has his fee and a lot of unsuspecting lads or arseholes have now got a terrier. Now you take that senario and multiply it by say 30 and say 4 pups from each litter that's 120 pups. Will they be in the right hands? I think not. Would everyone that has got 1 of these dogs know how to go about diggin in the proper manner? Answer, NO. When guys have a good line and they breed if there is 4 pups if for some reason there is a pup or 2 pups left that are surplus they will first IMO offer them to genuine terriermen if the pups don't go then "OMG here goes", they are PTS. Those that practise welping in this manner are not there for the opportunity of a few quid they are terriermen who put working ability before anything, there's enough SH1TE dogs out there and enough puppy peddlars without the encouragement of making more of them. I also think you'll find that most dogs you'll see advertised at stud out there if not all, belong to guys trying to make a name or trying to make a fast buck, and you can be guaranteed that a lot of people that would use those sort of dogs for stud will turn out SH1TE litters (working ability). Terriermen select the dogs they breed from for working abilityand nothing else. There's enough middletons and such like out there so lets keep it that way. JMHO.
