line bred pups or start from scratch????

Recommended Posts

i was helping a mate move house yesterday and in between my tipper nearly setting on fire on a dual carriageway :icon_eek: and squeezing various items in tight passages (sofa and cuboard down an allyway before you start lab  ) we were discussing whats the best out the two mentioned above  we both came to the conclusion that line bred is all good AS LONG as you have seen/owned/worked at least the parents of the pup doing what you want but if you have access to good pure breeds that are doing the job in the field then your just as well to start from scratch and breed your own  just wondered what most on here thought  and i mean all crosses not just bull crosses :victory:

line bred as long as u no the dogs were ur getting the pup from but its not to say u wont get a good one from starting from scrach but there more of a chance ull get a good worker from proven dogs that have been tryed and tested no harm in trying new blood if it dont suit give it the boot

theres pups been bred out of tried and tested dogs and even they can throw no hopers mate but at least you are trying down the right road.look at these top notch greyhounds on the track that have thrown a lot of crap.atb

i used to think line breeding was a good idea until a family friend did it with a dog that has a very good rep and have been told they were all no good barring 1. i think just worker to worker is enough tbh

got ot say i agree if you have a dog that does exactly what you want and well why would you want to get a dog because it has a repuation for all you know it could be no better than your dog but just come from a reputable source, plus i think if you have put the time and effort into a dog and get to the stage where it is good enough to breed from see the pups come on from your dog thats a better feeling than having someone elses line!!

No, the lad in question had a dog that was raved about by people all over plymouth, I personally never rated him but the lad that owned him put him to his daughter producer 10 pups of his own line

Well based on the facts they went to good homes and one of the guys that had a pup now has another dog aswell that and she's an exceptional standard

Problem is linebreeding also doubles the chances of keeping any bad traits
