goldy 0
alright lads, i have recently been granted fac for silenced hmr17 and silenced 22-250 (for fox). i have not bought 22-250 yet. however i have recently got a couple of farms to shoot on which say i can take deer if they show. so iam thinking of asking to change fac to 243 silenced as i can then use for both fox (day and night )and deer (day). as you can tell this is my first fac so i would really welcome any comments on: comparison of calibres, and likelyhood of getting 243 silenced if asked for? any comments much appreciated. Sako.243 1
Alright mate, I first had a 22.250 which in Scotland was fine for Roe Deer and fox (great rifle) then my mate started inviting me up to his eatate to shoot red deer hinds so it was a case of .243 upwards with 100grm + bullets so now i shoot a Sako .243 which is silenced for (Hearing Protection) Purposes !!. So its a case of one rifle does all !! Edited February 15, 2007 by Sako.243 Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
You shouldn,t have any problems buddy.Put in a one for one variation saying that, you now have permission to shoot deer, and require a .243 as a dual purpose weapon for fox and deer, as per the home office guideline. Dont wear any bollocks they might say about dsc 1,s or anything like that, all you need are deer, and the landowners permission to shoot them, in writing. Tell them you want expanding ammunition for it, and the moderator is for "health and safety" reasons [they cannot refuse it on this reason], let us know how you get on.Yours is a perfectly reasonable request, dont be bullied. kiwi 4
why not use the 22.250 for deer we tip over about thirty fallow a year with 223 and 22.250 no problem at all, i take it you are shooting roe? Quote Link to post
bullmastiff 615
Although I'm not up with rifle shooting (I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong!) I think it's illegal in England to use anything less than .243 on deer. 22 calibres can only be used in scotland for Roe. Quote Link to post
proper job 1
Bullmastiff, to be precise its .240, although i've never seen a rifle in that calibre. Quote Link to post
cramp 4
i have used a 243 for the last 8 years its the muts nutts Quote Link to post
IanB 0
When are they going to make the .22 250 legal for deer in england...????? Think its about time.. Quote Link to post
pegandgun 52
The 22.250 is an awsome peice of kit but when i went onto the .243 there was no comparison so in my opinion the .243 is the calibre to go for out of the two Quote Link to post
alimac 882
got both calibres, ok one is harder hitting, the other travels alot faster but to me its the person behind the riflle that counts Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
Ihave both, the 22-250 gets used a little more on fox, but to be honest since i got my 6.5x55 the other two hardly come out of the cabinets, it is such a forgiving round, unless your on the recieving end. :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
