ferret training?!?!

Recommended Posts

Hi mate instinct is the thing with ferrets its what they do in the wild no need to 'train' for ferreting.

Only thing I have ever done is make the same noise every time I feed them it can help if you get a hold up at any time when out!

You also need to handle them every day from day one as kits to get them used to you.

Othert than that nowt to do if your gonna hunt with em in my opinion (may get shot down now lol)

Oh and if you gonna use a locator and collar it helps to get them used to having the collar put on.

Most are a bit reluctant to go down a burrow and come to hand on the very first outing but soon get the hang of it.

As for circus tricks do you want workers or performing ferts :whistling:

I think there are definatly things you can do before you work them that will make them take to the work better, and things you can do in entering to get them really keen on it. But i don't think you can 'make' a worker, they are bred. They either have it or they don't and while you get a lot of 'working' ferrets, only a few really special ones, that stand out to you (anyone who has had a number of ferrets will always be able to pick out 1 or 2 special ones).

R.E tricks, you can get them to do most things, they are very smart, and it wont effect their working performance, its your call if you have the time. Recall is pretty handy. So is riding on your shouder/head.
