I took it for a MOT today and it sailed through which is also a bonus , its averageing around 30MPG and at best I have had 34MPG on a good run! I'm not a seriouse Off Roader so I can't comment what its like on the real boggy stuff, all I can say is it works for me! I can chuck just about everything in the back from Hawk Box's, Dogs, and the kids Motorbike with plenty of room to spare .....
IanB 0
Previous 4x4s shogun, and hilux vigo, don't think I'd go for another pickup..prefer a proper 4x4 because of spec and build, if I had to choose another for luxury and ability I'd go for landcruiser, disco 3 or shogun.. for now I'll sick with the defender I've got only using it for shooting, not too bad on the motorway...and you have no worries with getting it REALLY stinkin and dirty.. Ossie 11
my dad had landrovers for years, his old '48 was the business, just fecking cold (canvas back, spent a large portion of my childhood wrapped up in a blanket on the passenger seat!). he's currently got a 1.4 suzuki samurai lwb, which is brilliant off-road, as it is ridiculously light. also, the roof comes off, and you can fold the windscreen down, great for lamping off the headlights - whoever is in the passenger seat can shoot in comfort! otherwise, the toyota hilux takes some beating (and beatings!). go on youtube and look up "top gear hi-lux", and see what it takes to kill one! These days, I use a Scooby Justy 5dr, 1.2gli 4X4 car, cheap to run, insure and tax, goes all over the place and is used as a mobile kennel as well . £200 off fleabay , what more do you want.............Al
hairyface 211
ive had a crewcab hilux for 18month and i think it ok, was getting 30mpg on a regular basis and on a good run 33mpg, but without a diff lock i find them crap off road. so last week i fitted a set of GREENWAY MACHO tyres- 30x9.3x15 and now the fecker will go anywhere, last saturday i tried all day to get it stuck and i couldnt, but thats maybe an advert for the greenway tyres rather than the hilux, heres a pic these tyres a very noisy on the road, which doesnt bother me but when ifuelled up yesterday the mpg had dropped to 19mpg(which does bother me ) will this just be down to the tyres or will there be another reason
