Hepher 86
AS THE TOPIC SAYS, FERRILE FELINES. THE 2 SHOOTS I WORK FOR ARE VERY REMOTE. WE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH FERRILE FELINES. THEY SEEM TO NEST ANYWHERE THERE IS COVER OR EVEN TAKING TO EARTHS TO BIRTH THEIR YOUNG. COMMING INTO BIRTHING SEASON FOR THE SAID FELINES AND WITH NATURAL GROUND NESTING BIRDS UNDER THREAT, WILD AND RELEASED, WHAT ARE THE GENERAL THOUGHTS OF CONTROLLING THESE PESTS AND WHAT STRATEGYS SHOULD I USE? BRINGING INTO MIND THAT WE WILL HAVE YOUNG BIRDS ON THE GROUND IN 6 WEEKS TIME? Quote Link to post
bluecollar 104
bait them in with cat food, run and tree them at night with a good dog, get a good spotlight.. I have killed hundreds of them like this off of trash dumps.. I use patterdales and airedale lurchers.. Quote Link to post
Waz 4,262
Id bait a couple of convenient places up for a bit, then either cage trap or rifle. The bait up again. Quote Link to post
Terrier Sam 297
I'd love to be in your shoes! I'd say a couple of good dogs would do the job Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,763
Rimmy, cage trap or a terrier for flushing to the shotgun. Ive caught ferrals in mink cage traps before! This time of year the cover can be quite thick and they are away in the hedge rows so a fairly steady terrier/bushing dog can really be of use and a shotty with a decent cartridge. Imo No5 shot arnt at all suitable for a humane kill! Quote Link to post
jamie2004live 163
Seen this on some large grouse moors before the most affective solution is rifle and lamp, Quote Link to post
Grinder 102
Bush through with the dogs... They will usually tree themselves... But have dug too a couple as well.... Cage traps as these will catch other stuff too . A catering tin of sardines/ tuna with holes put in and tied to the back of the trap works well... And will last all season Quote Link to post
