Hob&Jill 258
Hi, Thought I would ask you lot a question, I need a new knife, but dont know what to get. Ive about £30 (little over little less dosent matter), dont want to go to much over as I need money, It must be razor sharp, hold the edge well and be a fixed blade, The rest is up to you Prefer more traditional looking knifes, but obviously its not that important. Ive had opinels, and CRKT btu both folding, and after a while they get clogged up with blood and guts. I like the look of some Helle knifes, are these any good? Guest Ditch_Shitter
I was just wondering if Normark do any small, fixed blades? (Remember; It'll have to be a damn small blade, if it's not to be guaranteed to eventually get ye into hot water) Only, whilst never having owned one, they do seem a popular make, without being in the Buck / Gerber sort of 'silly' price range. Opinel man myself. I wipe fur and muck off my blade before closing it. Never had a problem.

Hob&Jill 258
Thats not a bad idea actually mate Think I might go for a stanly, Sice my dads a chippy and gets discounts at Travis Perkins, Think I will go get a stanly and a pack of blades. Well, that saved me about £25! might not exactly be traditional or fit any of the descriptions I asked, but there cheap and replaceable. It will only be for gutting rabbits, any occasional feathers I get, I will use my current knife. Cheers, H&J Edited February 14, 2007 by jasper65
Guest Ditch_Shitter
F*ckin hat's off to ye, Snoopdog! Talk about Thinking Outside The (Tool) Box! These days ye can pick up flourecent coloured 'Stanley' knives too - easier to find when ye forget it. Some even have Lanyard holes. The retractable blades tend to be good and secure and, if it clogs up? Whip the screw out and clean it out! I Like it! Anything happens to my latest Opinel, I may just buy myself a differant belt pouch and carry my Stanley! Mine holds a spare blade inside itself. I've had a couple of boxes of fresh blades I've never yet got round to using too. Fantastic bit of inspirational input!
Hob&Jill 258
Snoop, I have looked at a few of the marksmen knives on Flea-bay and they are very well priced, I will be going for one, But just wondering, Are the blades that come with it sharp? or is it worth me buying others? Thanks, H&J

paulus 26
weston cuttlery do a nice drop point in 440grade surgical stainless holds an edge well and is easy to sharpen. ive had mine 6 years now good piece of kit for £30ish. i think i had mine from the british knife collectors guild or something like that. just a quick tip on sharpening after youve oilstoned and leatherd rub alternative strokes on the edge of your car window 40 or 50 times finishes them off a treat, as good as a diamond stone finish. will take the hairs off your arm if done properly.
