its not illegal to inject your own dog

Oh yes it is know someone who got charged for it and i asked the sspca personally cos i was curious what the law is on self medicating and stitching etc and was told under no uncertain terms. You cannot medicate or close wounds on a dog unless your a qaulified vet.Especially as the medication in this case is licensed

consider the source where you got that answer.it is NOT illegal.when i kept greys i bought btls of multi vitamins and syringes from a vet.the rspca and the vets are all in together to fleece you of your hard earned.never listen to anything those c**ts tell you.everything they say is double standards.

oh and im sorry i dont believe that you know someone who was charged.what would be the charge?utter crap

the thing that would worry me about doing it myself is I really don't think I could find a source that I trust 100%, what with having no way of checking out the composition of jabs and how they've been stored etc. Too much to risk.

Talking about prices, it's been two years since I got my last pup, but I'm sure it was a good bit less than £50 for both jabs and chipping, pays to shop around, and by doing so I've ended up with an awesome vet who actually understands working dogs, and not the rip off merchant everyone else seems to use around here (who wouldn't even sell me drontal over the counter without the vet seeing my dog at £30-odd quid, errr no thanks!!)

I used to keep Sheep, I could buy all medications and administer them my self all kinds of injections same with Cattle so a Dog is no different, but I would worry if buying meds, you may not know the shelf life ect, I used to keep Pedigree sheep along with a Vet who was practising, they just love Cat and Dog owners.

My understanding is that Prescription only medication (POP) can only be imported or brought by those who are licensed to do so and the sale of or even passing on free would be illegal in the UK and Ireland without a valid prescription for the recipient. You can give non prescription medication to your own dog and treat those things you are capable of treating but you cannot treat another’s animal. You need to bare in mind that if you stitch, glue or staple your own dog and get reported the job would be evaluated by a vet and if deemed less than perfect you would be liable to prosecution for cruelty and not seeking a vets advice. Some vets will give medication ie inoculations to a kennels etc for their own use but it is via a prescription and then under instruction of the vet.

If you buy POP illegally on the internet from abroad you may be getting a drug or maybe not, if you then inject a dog with that substance and get a reaction you will need to go to a vet and again face possible prosecution for cruelty, not seeking veterinary help and importing illegal POPs.

Personally I’d learn a little discretion.

Don't know if it's different in Scotland but the law in England is unnecessary suffering. Giving a dog an injection yourself causes no more suffering than if a vet did it as long as you know how to do it correctly.
