TOMO 26,268 Posted May 11, 2011 Report Share Posted May 11, 2011 ferreting dogs take them out from an early age on its own , just you a ferret,some nets and the pup,, take it from 4 month old,,, so come aug,sept,,, get it out.............im not saying let it run bolted rabbits,, just keep hold of him whilst there bolting to the nets,, let it take it all in going from hole to hole scenting befor you net up.. do it on your own without any other dogs Quote Link to post

As soon as the pup is ready to have a go matie, ferreting is easy but dont rush, this from what Ive been told could spoil the dog, but on the other hand is there a substitute for early success, good dogmen seem to get this balance right, us mere mortals seem to have to work at it..One thing I never do is set an age for a pup to start.. DottyDoo 500 Posted August 2, 2011 Report Share Posted August 2, 2011 if ye intend on using the dog as a ferreting dog an maybe even a bit a lamping, then id get the pup out as soon its got the basics sussed mine normally get took about at about 12 weeks old, not allowed to run anything but allowed to familirise themselves wae the fields an smells an watching the ferrets worrk... just dont over do it as they are pups, an take yer time an ye wont go far wrong Quote Link to post
