lurchermania 25
So I got our snipe at 7 month old and he had had a few. Too young in my eyes but benefit of the doubt. He came on well fitness wise and at about a year I took him out for my first time fought one. The first one I slipped him on and went home straight away. When I got home I was chuffed although no retrieve was present and he didn't know how to jump was a bit of a number but in my eyes young dogs and jumping don't mix. Anyway he went on his seccond trip out and a yap came out. He is a little of a yapper but not much. Anyway he has came on great and the other day I started outing a tennis ball in his mouth to hold and he picked it up in an instant. So I threw it and when he picked it up told him hold and then started walking away he folowed with praise and now I have a dog which plays fetch so not long before a retrieve is on it's way. Also I got the washing line and made a rope fence of it betwen the alley gate and he is clearing a 2 foot jump . Bare in mind I only started intensive training on Friday I think we are doing well . Thanks for reandin lads oh he is nearly. 2 now Quote Link to post

I'm gonna sell up now. Anyone know where I can buy a 3/4 bred gerbil x guinea pig. I've heard they're quite "hood" or a swap for a 3/4 collie greyhound (8 months old). Quote Link to post

Thanks for reandin lads oh he is nearly. 2 now Spot on. You are going in the right direction by the sounds of it, getting his training right before working him again. Some young keen dogs will yap initially, some mature dogs even do it after a long lay off, nothing to worry about at the mo as long as he does not start singing his heart out each time. If i were you i would wait till the summer is over, just work on his training, then get him out somewhere that holds a good load in Aug/Sept time for the young naive rabbits. Once he has had a few he should start to calm down as the night progresses, he will be too tired to think about yapping or messing about Quote Link to post
